Chapter 70: The Demon’s Lair, The Battlefield

By the third day, Luo Feng and Chen Gu had already departed from the Moonlight Residential Quarter. They met up with Gao Feng, Wei Tie, and Wei Qing at the HR Alliance Mall and headed together towards the military supply base in the Southeast Military District.

The Southeast Military District was even larger in scale than the Northern Military District of Jiangnan Base City!

“This supply base is significantly larger than the one in the Northern Military District,” Luo Feng remarked as they collected their keys and walked through the base. The residential area alone was far more extensive than its northern counterpart, and everywhere they looked, they saw numerous martial artists.

The martial artists here were also far superior in strength to those in the Northern Military District.

“Of course it’s stronger!” Gao Feng exclaimed. “City 003 is located near the ocean. Countless sea beasts have torn through the continent, threatening inland regions along the Huangpu River. This military district exists specifically to combat these oceanic beasts, and the martial artists here primarily deal with the monsters in City 003.”

Compared to land-based beasts, marine creatures posed an even greater threat to humanity.

Because… the ocean covered far more area than land, and it was entirely the domain of the beasts. One could only imagine how many monsters lurked beneath the waves.

“Look, is that the ‘Venom Demon Spear’?”

“Wow, that’s a War God? In the Northern Military District, it was rare to see even one War God-level expert, but here we’ve already spotted one.”

“It’s not surprising. City 003 is one of the largest monster strongholds in all of Eurasia. Not only our Jiangnan Base City, but experts from other base cities have gathered here as well. So it’s natural that there are so many masters around.”

The Hammer of Fire squad stood on their balcony, observing the scene below and exclaiming in awe.

These martial artists truly came from all corners of the land!

“We’ll eat now, and after lunch, we’ll head to City 003,” Gao Feng announced.

Shortly afterward, the fully equipped Hammer of Fire squad, a group of five, left the supply base.

“It’s the Hammer of Fire squad. They’ve come here too?”

“I heard their new recruit, the ‘Madman,’ is quite formidable. He’s already a Junior Warlord and is sure to rise swiftly through the ranks.”

Some people at the supply base exchanged remarks with smiles.

“The ‘Madman’?” Wan Dong, who was chatting with friends under the shade of a tree, turned his head as the Hammer of Fire squad walked toward the base’s main gate.

“Brother Dong, isn’t Luo Feng from the same batch as you?” asked a burly man beside him.

“Yeah.”

Wan Dong nodded. “We both became martial artists around the same time. I even met him during the recent Level 3 Rat Tide outbreak. I never expected he’d come to the Southeast Military District too.” During the rat tide, the leader of Wan Dong’s original team had died, so he and others joined another martial artist squad and came here.

“Brother Dong, keep pushing! Don’t let Luo Feng outshine you,” the burly man said, punching Wan Dong lightly on the chest.

Wan Dong watched Luo Feng disappear through the gate, his heart filled with complex emotions.

They had once taken the martial artist practical exam together, both recruited early by the martial arts academy. Never did he imagine that now, he was still a rookie needing to strive, while Luo Feng had already made a name for himself in the martial artist circles. Nowadays, when people mentioned the “Madman from Jiangnan,” most knew who that was.

You see, making a name for oneself was no easy feat!

Either through a legendary battle!

Or through unique achievements, like Luo Feng killing over ten thousand beasts in just two months.

Or through years of accumulated reputation, like Chen Gu or Zhang Ke, who had taken over a decade to build their names.

And now, Luo Feng had already become a figure of renown.

“He was just like me back then, and now he’s already a well-known martial artist. I can’t let him outshine me!” Wan Dong clenched his fist. With Luo Feng as his benchmark, Wan Dong dared not slack off even a little.

Traveling along the highway, Luo Feng and his group finally entered the territory of City 003 after about two days.

The sky was overcast, and the Hammer of Fire squad advanced cautiously. “Get indoors!” Gao Feng hissed in a low voice.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! The five of them quickly darted into a nearby storefront.

“Yowww!”

“Gaaawww!”

A flock of hundreds of flying beasts soared across the sky, and only after they passed did the Hammer of Fire squad cautiously emerge.

“This is a monster stronghold, the largest in all of Eurasia. It’s not just land beasts, but also countless flying creatures,” Gao Feng warned gravely. “And because it’s near the sea, amphibious monsters also appear here. So everyone must be extremely cautious!”

“Understood, Captain,” Luo Feng and the others nodded.

They all knew how perilous this place was. Just the recent swarm of flying beasts could have been deadly, and only by using the terrain and Luo Feng’s power could they have survived.

“Our target is a residential area called ‘Vanke Dream City,’ about two miles away,” Gao Feng whispered. “Vanke Dream City is massive, originally capable of housing nearly a million people. Now it’s overrun with monsters. Since it’s on the outskirts of City 003, we’re unlikely to encounter any Lord-level beasts there. It’s a good place for us to start.”

“Understood,” the others nodded.

“Everyone be careful. Beasts could emerge from the sky, the ground, or even beneath us,” Gao Feng ordered. “Move out!”

Luo Feng’s Blood Shadow Blade was already drawn, and Chen Gu’s RG112 heavy machine gun was ready to fire. The five members of the Hammer of Fire squad advanced cautiously, showing none of the arrogance they once had in smaller towns.

“Roarrr!” “Awooooo!” “Die!”

A thunderous roar echoed from dozens of miles away, accompanied by a human’s furious shout.

“What kind of beast is that?” Chen Gu turned his head toward the sound.

“That’s the city center direction. It’s a real melting pot, where the big sharks lurk. There are Lord-level beasts and War God-level martial artists there,” Gao Feng explained. “Without War God-level strength, going there is suicide! In the heart of City 003, not only do we have experts from our own Chinese nation, but also warriors from other countries like the Soviet Union and India!”

Luo Feng and the others nodded.

Two miles might seem short, and under normal circumstances could be covered in less than a minute. But it took the Hammer of Fire squad half an hour to reach the long-abandoned Vanke Dream City. During that time, they had already killed two snake-like beasts, over thirty ordinary Soldier-level beasts, and one Junior General-level beast!

“I’d heard it was dangerous, but I didn’t expect it to be this dangerous! We were so careful, yet we still had to fight a Junior General-level beast,” Chen Gu’s eyes gleamed with excitement. “No wonder it’s City 003!”

“Move! Quickly, up the stairs!”

Gao Feng waved them forward.

Luo Feng and the others swiftly darted into a residential building. It was an 18-story structure, and they fought their way from the first floor to the twelfth, encountering over a dozen beasts along the way.

In a roughly 100-square-meter room on the twelfth floor…

“This apartment will be our temporary resting place during our time in City 003,” Gao Feng announced.

Luo Feng nodded in agreement.

Unlike smaller towns, City 003 was filled with flying beasts, making it impossible to rest on the rooftop. Doing so would be tantamount to suicide.

“Look, over there!” Gao Feng stood on the dusty balcony, pointing southward. “See that area completely shrouded in mist?”

Luo Feng and the others joined him.

Indeed, about ten miles away, a cluster of buildings was faintly visible through the fog, beyond which nothing could be seen—only the sight of broken street signs. That area was eerily enveloped in mist. In fact, the entire City 003 was cloaked in a gray haze. Roars of beasts and cries of flying creatures were everywhere. And the thunderous sounds of herds numbering in the tens of thousands were common sights!

“In the core of that area, there used to be a Carrefour supermarket. A ‘High Lord-level’ beast now dwells there,” Gao Feng said gravely. “Remember, no matter what, we must never approach that place! It’s said that this High Lord-level beast commands two Low Lord-level beasts, along with countless General and Soldier-level monsters. It’s the dominant force within a radius of twenty to thirty miles!”

Luo Feng inhaled sharply.

A High Lord-level beast, with two Low Lord-level subordinates? What kind of species was this?

“Of course, they’re only dominant in the suburbs. In the city center, there are even more Lord-level beasts,” Gao Feng waved his hand. “Alright, everyone rest for the night. Tomorrow, our journey in City 003 begins.”

“Understood, Captain.”

Luo Feng and the others exchanged glances, their faces breaking into smiles.

“Yowww!”

Hundreds of flying beasts soared overhead, some even flying directly through the buildings of the residential area. The closest beast was only twenty to thirty meters away from Luo Feng and his team.

“Everyone, retreat to the bedrooms. The windows are small, so the flying beasts can’t get in. Tonight, Chen Gu and Wei Tie will take turns keeping watch.”

In City 003, even while sleeping, someone had to remain on guard!

No one dared to relax, for this was the paradise of beasts, the hell for humanity, and the battlefield for martial artists!
