Chapter 684: Death Leaves No Evidence

In the starry expanse of the Wulong Star Region, the aftermath of countless battles had scattered remains of warriors, shattered weapons, and remnants of advanced technological arms, all meticulously categorized and arranged in orderly formations across the cosmos. Yet, the several ten-thousand-kilometer-wide zone that had just witnessed a life-and-death battle between Immortal-level beings lay in utter chaos, disturbing even the carefully arranged remains of Domain Lord-level insectoid corpses.

At a point several ten-thousands of kilometers away from Luo Feng, where once a spherical monitoring device floated, a human figure suddenly materialized out of thin air.

He stood about ten meters tall, clad in an intricately designed and bizarre battle armor of deep purple and black. Mysterious ancient runes faintly shimmered across the armor’s surface, exuding an aura so terrifying that even the cosmic void trembled before it. Most striking were the tall, imposing boots he wore—gazing upon them evoked the sensation of staring at an endless mountain range, suffocating and overwhelming.

He stood in the cosmos like a sovereign.

“Hmm?” He glanced at the fragments of spherical instruments beside him, then turned his gaze toward Luo Feng in the distance, murmuring, “Judging from the energy fluctuations, it was a fire-elemental Immortal.”

Swoosh!

At that moment, Luo Feng, who had been standing in the cosmic void, stared in shock at the sudden appearance of this towering figure. As he looked up, meeting the dark crimson gaze beneath the stranger’s strange helmet, his very soul quivered instinctively, and without hesitation, he bowed deeply in reverence: “Honored to meet a Venerable of the Cosmos!”

From his experiences in the Chaos City, he had seen many King-ranked Immortals. There was no doubt that only a Venerable of the Cosmos could inspire such a soul-shaking awe.

“Are you Luo Feng?” The thunderous voice rumbled through space and echoed in Luo Feng’s mind.

“I am.” Luo Feng replied respectfully.

“Explain in detail what happened here.” The Venerable gazed down at the young figure before him. Earlier, the Wulong Star Region’s defensive AI had transmitted an alert, summoning him immediately. It had also provided him with information on Luo Feng and the other three internal members.

“It is as you command, Venerable.” Luo Feng bowed again. “I came here to purchase insectoid corpses. I was being guided by two Inspectors, examining the insectoid corpses one by one. However, just moments ago, I coincidentally encountered another internal member of the Wulong Star Region. He was also clad in white robes, named Koser. My two Inspectors recognized him.”

“Meeting another internal member within the Wulong Star Region is extremely rare, so my two Inspectors were delighted and immediately engaged in conversation with Koser.”

“But then—”

“My AI assistant suddenly alerted me that it had detected a sudden disruption in the surrounding monitoring signals.” Luo Feng’s eyes flashed with intensity as he continued, “At that very moment, Koser, without warning and from close range, launched a surprise attack. My two Inspectors were instantly killed before they could react.”

The Venerable gazed down at Luo Feng in silence, listening without comment.

Luo Feng, however, felt a knot of tension in his chest.

He knew he must be careful with his words. The Wulong Star Region was a critical stronghold of humanity, guarded by forces as mighty as a Venerable of the Cosmos. Defying its laws was unthinkable.

“Immediately after, Koser turned his attack on me.” Luo Feng continued solemnly. “However, having reached Domain Lord status and being dispatched by the Virtual Universe Company, I was well aware of the dangers that might arise. Thus, I had prepared contingencies. Within the pocket world I carried, I had ten Domain Lord-level guards. I summoned them immediately and had my auxiliary plant life, the Moyal Vine, assist them in confronting Koser.”

“It seemed we would easily defeat Koser… but—”

“Before he perished, Koser released a fire-elemental Immortal from his inner world!” Luo Feng hurriedly explained. “I never imagined that Koser’s inner world would contain a fire-elemental Immortal… This… this is truly terrifying!”

The Venerable remained silent, listening.

“The moment the fire-elemental Immortal emerged, its first act was to kill Koser himself, which left me utterly stunned and confused.” Luo Feng continued in a low voice. “After killing Koser, it immediately turned to eliminate my ten Domain Lord guards. However, the Immortal was unaware… among my ten Domain Lord guards, one was my soul slave. Hidden within his inner world was my secret weapon—a technological artifact crafted by the Machine Race, codenamed ‘V-1129’—the Fire God Core.”

Luo Feng was well aware…

The energy fluctuations and residual traces left by the Immortal’s self-destruction could never be hidden from a Venerable of the Cosmos. Even ordinary Immortals could detect them.

How had he survived such a catastrophe?

He needed a detailed, verifiable account, or he would face serious consequences.

“The Fire God Core?” The Venerable’s voice echoed in Luo Feng’s mind.

“Yes.” Luo Feng bowed respectfully.

The Fire God Core was a technological weapon of the Machine Race. As the pinnacle of cosmic technology, the Machine Race could indeed craft weapons capable of killing Immortals. However, such weapons were exorbitantly priced, especially those that could be used repeatedly.

An F-grade laser gun?

It was said to cost over a hundred million Chaos Units—few King-ranked Immortals could afford such a luxury.

Besides individual weapons like laser guns, there were also large-scale weapons such as ‘Star Fortresses’ and ‘God Bases,’ terrifying tools deployed in interstellar warfare. Even a King-ranked Immortal would struggle to afford them. However, there were cheaper alternatives—disposable weapons.

Such as the Fire God Core.

Fire, being one of the most volatile energies, made the Fire God Core one of the more accessible weapons capable of killing an Immortal. It compressed vast quantities of fire-elemental Immortal energy into a crystal sphere, which would then detonate, unleashing a cataclysmic explosion akin to an Immortal’s self-destruction.

Though the principle was simple, the technology required was highly advanced. Compressing Immortal-level fire energy into an ‘Immortal Crystal,’ and then further compressing it into a ‘Core’ with millions of times greater density, demanded immense technological prowess.

The V-1129 Fire God Core was a lower-tier variant, with an explosive yield comparable to that of an average fire-elemental Immortal’s self-destruction.

As a disposable weapon, if one had the right connections, it could be purchased for between one hundred thousand to one hundred and fifty thousand Chaos Units.

“My soul slave activated the Fire God Core, which detonated instantly.” Luo Feng continued respectfully. “By the time the explosion occurred, I had already fled several ten-thousand kilometers away, having escaped during the initial clash between my ten Domain Lords and Koser.”

To conceal the presence of the Golden-Horned Giant Beast, Luo Feng had used his ‘World Projection’ to swiftly gather the scattered flesh and scales of the beast from the battlefield and store them within his pocket world.

After careful deliberation,

Luo Feng fabricated this story, using the Fire God Core as an explanation for everything, and attributing the move to his controlled Domain Lord slave.

Luo Feng stood respectfully, awaiting the Venerable’s response.

“Hmm.” The Venerable finally nodded. “I will record your account and transmit it to the Wulong Star Region’s defensive AI system. As for your case… it will be reviewed and decided upon by five other King-ranked Immortals.”

At that moment…

Ripples stirred in the distant space, and moments later, a spaceship materialized out of nowhere.

Luo Feng’s eyes lit up—it was the spaceship of King Longque.

Whoosh!

The hatch opened, and King Longque, accompanied by Dylan, flew out in a streak of light.

“Venerable.” King Longque bowed respectfully.

Dylan followed suit.

“I leave the matter here to you five to handle. I have already submitted Luo Feng’s account and my own judgment to the Wulong Star Region’s defensive AI.” The Venerable spoke coldly, then vanished into thin air, teleporting away.

In the starry void, only Luo Feng, King Longque, and Dylan remained.

“Your Highness, are you unharmed?” Dylan hurriedly asked, his eyes filled with regret. “My master entrusted me to protect you, yet I failed…”

“Dylan, it is not your fault.” Luo Feng shook his head.

King Longque quickly added, “This is not Dylan’s fault, nor Luo Feng’s. The fault lies within our own ranks. It seems an alien spy has infiltrated the Wulong Star Region.” He continued, “Whenever a human prodigy is assassinated, it is often blamed on alien spies. Yet sometimes, such prodigies fall victim to internal feuds among humans. But as long as the truth remains hidden, it will always be attributed to alien spies.”

“Who was the one who launched the attack?” King Longque asked Luo Feng.

“Koser, an internal member of the Wulong Star Region.” Luo Feng replied.

“Hmm.” King Longque nodded, scanning the surrounding space with an invisible Immortal force radiating outward. He examined the distant wreckage of insectoid corpses for a long while before saying, “There are many remnants of Moyal Vines here…”

“They were my auxiliary plant life.” Luo Feng explained.

“This is quite a loss.”

King Longque frowned. “Over a thousand Domain Lord-level insectoid corpses have been destroyed. If this battle had occurred in the ‘Domain Lord Insectoid Corpse Zone,’ the loss would have been much smaller. This has already exceeded ten million Chaos Units in damages. This matter will be quite complicated.”

“Complicated?” Luo Feng looked at him.

“Yes.”

King Longque fixed his gaze on Luo Feng. “Indeed. Although you informed me that someone was trying to kill you, both of your Inspectors and the assassin Koser are now dead. Dead, and thus unable to testify. If even one had survived, we could have probed their soul and uncovered the truth. But with all of them dead, the facts cannot be confirmed. If the loss had been less than a million Chaos Units, I could have handled it alone. But now, five overseers must be involved. Since there are no surviving witnesses, Luo Feng, you may find yourself in some trouble.”
