Chapter 665: Form and Spirit

The grassland trembled violently as the massive, mountain-sized Golden-Horned Beast fell onto the plains. Golden blood seeped from its scales, leaving visible trails, and some of the armor-like plates were even cracked. Golden blood also trickled from its eyes and nostrils.

Instantly, surging cosmic power spread out, enveloping the Golden-Horned Beast to begin healing its wounds.

Outside, in the Lasao World Beast God Canyon.

Luo Feng, seated in meditation like countless other ascetics across the cosmos, suddenly let out a low groan of pain. His hands tightly gripped the ground, crushing the scattered stones into dust.

“Your Highness?”

“Prince Luo Feng, what’s wrong?”

Dylan and Shipan Qi, seated nearby in meditation, were startled. They both noticed the expression of agony on Luo Feng’s face.

Luo Feng did not reply. He continued gripping the ground, his forehead veins bulging and twisting.

He exhaled deeply, opened his eyes, and looked tiredly at Dylan and Shipan Qi. “Nothing. Don’t worry.”

Dylan and Shipan Qi exchanged glances.

Nothing?

That was nonsense. Luo Feng had been sitting peacefully, and under their vigilance—two Immortal-level beings—there was absolutely no possibility he had been attacked. Yet, he had shown such intense pain. It was strange. Luo Feng was a cosmic powerhouse; there was no way he could just fall ill randomly.

“Looks like the prince has secrets,” Dylan thought.

“This human, Luo Feng, also has some hidden mysteries,” Shipan Qi mused.

Luo Feng sat there, raising his head to gaze at the colossal, slumbering Beast God statue in the distance, his heart in turmoil.

“Why?”

“Just copying the scale patterns of the small Beast God statue caused an invisible pressure—not only affecting the Golden-Horned Beast’s body, but even my soul. Even my Mosha Clone and Earthling self were impacted. How could this happen?” Luo Feng was astonished.

He had carved the large slumbering Beast God statue before without issue, so why was the small one causing trouble?

The Golden-Horned Beast was inside his Inner World, his own domain, where no other superpower could possibly attack. Plus, Dylan and Shipan Qi were right beside him…

“I wasn’t assaulted by any other mighty warriors. Then who struck me down?”

“If I wasn’t attacked, then how could I suffer such severe injuries for no reason?”

Luo Feng furrowed his brows.

“The Golden-Horned Beast, even inside my Inner World, was gravely wounded by an invisible and terrifying pressure that affected both body and soul… It was terrifying,” Luo Feng recalled with a shudder, “a pressure I couldn’t resist at all.”

“There are only two possible explanations!”

“First, there’s a super-being more powerful than I can imagine, trying to stop me from copying the small Beast God statue, thus punishing me,” Luo Feng speculated. “Second, if it’s not a being, then it must be the cosmic laws themselves acting against me.”

The universe was pressing against Luo Feng.

Yes.

From Luo Feng’s understanding, the universe had its own laws. For example, if space was shattered, it would naturally repair itself. If one reached light speed, they’d be sent to the dark universe. These were all manifestations of the cosmic laws. If his actions had violated those laws, a backlash was likely.

Within the Primordial Universe, one must abide by its laws.

“Any violation of the cosmic laws will result in backlash,” Luo Feng thought. “I’ve seen such violations before, like the unnamed manual on the metal tablet from Earth, which clearly broke the basic rules of genetic evolution.”

A supreme being had created a technique that defied the laws yet could still be passed down.

But Luo Feng…

He only understood the basics of cosmic laws and couldn’t yet avoid their backlash.

“Two possibilities.”

“Which one is it?” Luo Feng wondered. “A super-being punishing me? That’s extremely unlikely. Whoever could do that would have to be so powerful that even Shipan Qi and Dylan wouldn’t sense them. And such a being would have to penetrate my Inner World to attack the Golden-Horned Beast. That’s beyond my comprehension. Would such a being even bother watching me constantly?”

Though confident, Luo Feng was not arrogant.

He wasn’t at the level where such a being would monitor him constantly.

“And I was only copying the scale patterns of the small Beast God statue when the backlash occurred,” Luo Feng noted.

Putting it all together.

There was a 90% chance it was the cosmic laws pressing against him!

He exhaled, relieved.

The universe was vast and impartial, nurturing countless species and powerful beings. Its laws were fair and unbiased. Even the Golden-Horned Beast’s inherited memories only described the existence of these laws, which were clearly meant to maintain cosmic stability.

They wouldn’t just kill a life outright.

At least, there was no record of the cosmic laws killing anyone in the Golden-Horned Beast’s memories.

“Did my actions violate the cosmic laws’ boundaries?” Luo Feng looked at the colossal Beast God statue in the distance, his heart racing.

The cosmic laws’ boundaries meant something.

They hinted at a secret hidden within the Beast God statue, a secret so profound it could attract the intervention of the cosmic laws themselves.

“If I can uncover this great secret, as Hiero said, I might truly become an invincible being,” Luo Feng mused. “No wonder no one has ever deciphered the slumbering Beast God statue in billions of years. After all, this slumbering statue and the small one are of the same being.”

“A secret at the peak of the universe.”

Luo Feng was truly excited.

Because he realized… he had stumbled upon a rare opportunity!

The Beast God statue might be a guiding beacon leading him toward invincibility in the cosmos. Even someone as confident as Luo Feng knew how difficult it was to become a cosmic powerhouse. Humans, Golden-Horned Beasts, and others had existed in the universe for eons, yet even Cosmic Sovereigns were extremely rare.

And beings like “Hiero,” who could single-handedly elevate an entire race to cosmic prominence, were even rarer.

There was only one such being in Golden-Horned Beast history.

“My small Beast God statue is clearly more valuable than the large one,” Luo Feng thought. “I had no issues copying the large one, but copying the small one triggered cosmic backlash. Plus, the small one seems to have a unique spirit, as if it were the true Beast God. And the small statue was obtained from the ‘Blood-Net World,’ where the Beast God once lived—it must be the original. The large one… was probably carved by some supreme being.”

Understanding the implications of the two statues, Luo Feng knew he had to seize this opportunity!

“The large Beast God statue is likely a lower-tier version.”

“The small one is the higher-tier version,” Luo Feng judged. “Copying the large one was fine, and though it exudes strong pressure, it lacks a spirit.”

“So!”

“One step at a time. I’ll first study the scale patterns of the large Beast God statue in detail. When I’m strong enough, I’ll move on to the small one,” Luo Feng decided. “The small statue was left behind by some being, so clearly, resisting the cosmic laws isn’t impossible.”

Luo Feng knew he was just a tiny ant among humans, and humans were only one of the few supreme races among countless others.

Compared to the cosmic laws…

He was insignificant.

“Let’s begin.”

Luo Feng gazed at the colossal Beast God statue in the canyon, releasing his mental power to carefully sense the scale patterns of the slumbering statue. Though he had successfully copied it before, it had produced no pressure, so he needed to find out why.

“Hmm?”

“Waves?”

As Luo Feng’s mental power probed the scale patterns, unlike before when he had simply scanned the entire statue quickly, this time he carefully sensed and experienced it.

Gradually, Luo Feng felt the patterns causing subtle fluctuations in the surrounding space—cosmic fluctuations, but not of any known fundamental law: metal, wood, water, fire, earth, wind, lightning, light, time, or space. Yet these fluctuations were more unsettling.

The invisible pressure originated from these fluctuations.

“So this is the secret!”

“These scale patterns cause fluctuations… Hmm, they seem to form a continuous whole…” Luo Feng began to grasp something real.

In fact, this was something Golden-Horned Beast elders and human masters had long discovered.

Otherwise, so many masters wouldn’t gather here endlessly studying it.

In his Inner World.

As the Earthling Luo Feng carefully observed the giant Beast God statue, on a grassland within the Inner World, the Golden-Horned Beast was once again carving the slumbering statue’s scale patterns into a mountain.

“I was wrong before.”

“The carving must be done in one continuous motion. The 90,000+ scales must be carved in a single stroke, forming a mysterious pattern akin to a law inscription, triggering cosmic fluctuations that aren’t of any known elemental law: metal, wood, water, fire, earth, wind, lightning, light, time, or space,” the Mosha Luo Feng stood beside, observing the Golden-Horned Beast’s carving.

Mosha Luo Feng watched the Golden-Horned Beast carve.

Earthling Luo Feng observed the slumbering Beast God statue itself.

Occasionally, Mosha Luo Feng would also observe the ‘small Beast God statue,’ feeling its essence, helping the other clones understand its spirit.

As the saying goes: practice a thousand times, and the meaning will reveal itself.

The same principle applied to law comprehension. There was a very tedious method of cultivation: repeatedly copying a master’s secret technique, tracing the master’s movements exactly, again and again, millions and billions of times. As the movements became more precise, one would naturally sense some law fluctuations.

It was a foolish method.

It didn’t seek true comprehension, only the ability to use the technique. This method ensured one could never fully grasp a law.

But Luo Feng understood that the secret hidden within the Beast God statue might be even more difficult than fully grasping space or time laws to become a Cosmic Sovereign.

And even a Cosmic Sovereign was far beyond his reach.

So, how much harder would it be to uncover the secret?

In that case…

Use the foolish method. Copy it once, ten thousand times, a billion times.

“Others copying it would lack a precise standard, since the slumbering Beast God statue itself conceals its true spirit and essence,” the Black-robed Luo Feng looked up at the Golden-Horned Beast carving repeatedly.

“But I have an accurate standard.”

The Black-robed Luo Feng looked down at the small Beast God statue in his hand.

Simple.

While carving, align the feeling with the essence of the small statue, constantly experiencing its spirit while carving again and again…

Form and spirit.

Only with both could one eventually succeed. This was Luo Feng’s foolish method for unraveling the Beast God statue’s secrets. And for someone of his current strength, it was the most practical and realistic approach.

“I don’t seek to fully uncover the secret. I only hope to gain a little insight, which would greatly benefit me. When I’m strong enough in the future, I can slowly explore it further,” Luo Feng thought. After all, knowing one’s limits was a virtue.
