An eerie melody drifted through the air. If one could disregard the mind-altering effects of the enchanted music and simply listen to the composition itself, it remained breathtakingly exquisite.
In the void, a staircase spiraled upward, layer upon layer.
Luo Feng of the Mosha Clan transformed into a streak of light, soaring through the tiers. Soon he reached the 3333rd step—the final tier of the first stage. Before Luo Feng stood a grand hall, a thousand meters tall, its outer walls adorned with intricate carvings. The hall had two massive golden doors.
The doors were open.
“The Hall!”
Luo Feng gazed at the imposing golden gates, emanating a terrifying pressure. Standing before the hundreds-of-meters-high doors, he felt as small as an ant.
“I’ve arrived.” Luo Feng flew directly into the hall.
Inside, clouds and mist swirled. Above the mist floated a stone tablet, upon which mysterious words automatically appeared. Moments later, the inscription was complete:—”You are the 61,201st inheritor to arrive here. You have the qualification to receive the title of ‘Initial Successor’ and obtain the Initial Successor Reward.”
As the words completed their appearance, Luo Feng was glancing around, seeking the promised treasures when suddenly—
“Those who arrive here have either completed the first stage—the 3,333 steps of inheritance—or, like you, have forcibly resisted the demonic whispers to ascend.” A voice both intricate and enigmatic reverberated through the grand hall. Though the tongue was foreign, Luo Feng grasped its meaning instantly.
Luo Feng’s heart jolted.
The Demon Mountain had stood since time immemorial. The mighty entity that once resided within its peaks should have vanished ages ago.
“To withstand the Demon’s Whisper, one must at least be a Cosmic Sovereign! A mighty ruler, a sovereign in your own right, yet you still crave these petty relics I left behind. Ha! Since you’ve ventured this far, take them.” As the voice dissipated, two swirling vortices of energy descended from the mist.
One golden.
One gray.
Luo Feng of the Mosha Clan stood in the grand hall, his eyes fixed upon the two ethereal masses floating in the distance. A thought crossed his mind: “The mighty one who left this legacy must have woven protective enchantments throughout the palace. Having ascended past the 3,333 trials without faltering, he surely believes I withstood the demonic whispers all the way to the summit.”
“Still, truly impressive.”
“According to his words, resisting the Demon’s Whisper requires at least the strength of a Cosmic Sovereign,” Luo Feng pondered.
Sovereigns were divided into Spatial Sovereigns and Temporal Sovereigns.
In the vast cosmos, they were indeed rulers of their own dominions, capable of founding cosmic nations, commanding countless galaxies and innumerable subjects. Even among the dominant species—the human race—Cosmic Emperors were figures of great prestige. In weaker species, Sovereigns would likely be the pinnacle of martial might.
“It seems,”
“Whoever left behind this Demonic Sound inheritance must be even mightier than a Cosmic Sovereign,” Luo Feng murmured, his eyes locked onto the two hovering masses.
From the mist, a golden and a gray mass drifted closer.
Boom!
Boom!
The gray mass exploded, revealing a strangely shaped gray stone disc. About three meters long and half a meter wide, it bore intricate, naturally formed patterns across its surface. At its center, the patterns coalesced into the image of a mythical bird.
The golden mass burst open, revealing a radiant golden fruit, translucent and shimmering, its flesh faintly visible within. Golden energy swirled around it.
A stone disc.
A fruit!
These were the treasures left behind in the inheritance palace.
“Lofeir Disc!” Babata exclaimed in astonishment. “The one who left this inheritance palace must be truly generous—leaving behind a Lofeir Disc as the first reward!”
“What is a Lofeir Disc?” Luo Feng asked quickly.
“The Lofeir Disc is somewhat similar to your Dark Cloud Shuttle,” Babata explained. “It is a flying artifact meant to be ridden.”
“A flying mental energy artifact?” Luo Feng questioned.
In the cosmos, mental energy artifacts were relatively cheap for Luo Feng now. Even fifth-tier artifacts, which might be valuable to World-level Sovereigns, were of little interest to him. Yet this naturally formed stone disc was something he had never seen or heard of before.
“Is the Lofeir Disc valuable?” Luo Feng asked.
“Are you kidding?” Babata replied. “Luo Feng, those first- to fifth-tier mental energy artifacts are meant for those below Immortal-level. Immortal beings have no interest in such tools. Even among the Nine Divine Weapons, such as the Yanshen Armaments, only the most basic Immortals would use them. Those with even a little power would seek something better.”
Luo Feng nodded—he already knew this.
“Immortal beings use many different kinds of weapons.”
“The Lofeir Disc, however, is among the most exceptional and rare flying artifacts used by Immortal beings. Those who possess one are rarely even just Marquis-level Immortals—most are Duke-level Immortals.” Babata continued. “It is a naturally formed stone disc, formed in the cosmos itself, and its power is astonishing!”
Luo Feng was stunned.
“Most who possess it are Duke-level Immortals. What about my teacher?”
“Which teacher?” Babata asked. “If you mean Zhenyan Wang, of course he could obtain such a treasure. But my former master? He was a bit weaker. His flying artifact was far inferior to this. After all, a Lofeir Disc costs between one to two million Primordial Units, and they are rarely ever sold!”
Luo Feng took a deep breath.
He needed to stay calm.
One to two million Primordial Units?
“Damn, that’s expensive!” Luo Feng felt poor. A million Primordial Units—what did that mean? Once, Luo Feng had attended an auction where a small star region, the Tana Star Region, had sold for only one thousand Primordial Units.
The Heiwu Star Region, a much larger domain with twenty times as many star systems, was worth between thirty to one hundred thousand Primordial Units. Because its systems were clustered together, making it easier to govern, its value could increase exponentially. Yet even so, it still only reached a maximum of one hundred thousand units.
Fifty thousand Primordial Units could buy the Heiwu Star Region. A hundred thousand was already at the upper limit.
“This single stone disc rivals the value of the Heiwu Star Region?” Luo Feng exhaled deeply.
“If you offered this stone disc to the Immortal being of the Heiwu Mountain Sanctuary, he would be ecstatic to trade with you,” Babata said. “After all, the Heiwu Empire is merely the personal property of an Immortal being.”
Luo Feng nodded.
He needed to adjust his perspective. On Earth, nations were public domains. In the cosmos, many entire civilizations were private possessions. The Qianwoo Cosmic Empire, for instance, was the private property of the Qianwoo Emperor. If there were a secret treasure that could elevate the Qianwoo Emperor’s power to the level of a Chaos City Lord—
The Emperor would gladly trade the entire Qianwoo Empire for it.
“What about the fruit?” Luo Feng asked.
“As for that, I don’t know. I followed your teacher for over sixty million years, and I’ve seen and heard much. But I’ve never seen a golden fruit like this. I do know of another kind of golden fruit, but clearly this is different.” Babata replied.
…
Inside the hall, Luo Feng looked up at the two floating treasures in the mist. Though his conversation with Babata seemed long, it had only taken an instant.
At this moment, the stone tablet in the mist displayed new words:—”The Initial Successor’s reward: the first is the Lofeir Disc, a flying vehicle suited for mentalists. With it, your chances of survival in the dangerous cosmos increase. The second is the Jin Hun Fruit, a miraculous fruit that ripens only once every three eons. It has the power to transform the soul, making it more suitable for inheritance. Both the first and second stages contain soul-altering treasures. Yet to this day, no lifeform has successfully completed the full inheritance.”
Luo Feng understood.
Without hesitation, he extended his hand, which stretched impossibly far, grasping the two treasures—the Lofeir Disc and the Jin Hun Fruit—and swiftly storing them within his spatial ring.
“The Jin Hun Fruit, capable of transforming the soul,” Luo Feng nodded to himself.
“It makes sense.”
“If I were the great being who left this inheritance, I would also leave behind treasures to aid future inheritors in completing it.” Luo Feng mused. “Yet even with the aid of a great being, of the hundreds of thousands who have come here, nearly all were Immortal beings—and none succeeded.”
…
After obtaining the two treasures, Luo Feng of the Mosha Clan quickly left the hall and descended.
Whoosh!
He flew downward, from the lofty hall to the 1237th tier, landing beside his Earthling clone. He handed the spatial ring to his clone before vanishing into his inner world.
Luo Feng stood on the 1237th tier, gazing up at the hall, a smile spreading across his face.
“Hahaha!”
“Truly incredible fortune this time.” Luo Feng’s expression brightened. “The universe is vast and mysterious, full of opportunities. But only those who seize them achieve success. I have seized mine.”
With a flick of his wrist, the golden, translucent fruit appeared in his palm, golden energy swirling around it.
The Jin Hun Fruit, which bore fruit only once every three eons.
“According to the inscription in the hall, the Jin Hun Fruit can transform the soul, making it more suitable for inheritance.” Luo Feng hesitated no longer. He bit into the fruit. As soon as the skin broke, its flesh flowed into him like energy.
Hiss! Hiss!
Even the golden skin dissolved into energy, flowing into Luo Feng’s body.
Luo Feng felt a cool sensation rush through him, then the energy surged into his Origin Core, seeping into his crystallized soul. Golden energy flowed, and Luo Feng’s soul began to change. The once crimson soul gradually took on a hint of gold.
“So refreshing!”
“The earlier pain is gone, no fatigue at all—just boundless energy!” Luo Feng clearly felt the transformation of his soul. “Even the sense of strain has vanished.”
His eyes gleamed with excitement.
“HAHAHAHA!”
“I can now accept even more inheritance!” Luo Feng rejoiced.
“Hey, Luo Feng, I should remind you about the Lofeir Disc’s refinement process,” Babata’s voice echoed in Luo Feng’s mind.
