Chapter 447: Chaos City

Inside the grand hall.

A thousand geniuses stood in silence, unable to utter a word. In the presence of Immortals, there was sheer pressure, as if a mountain had been placed upon one’s body. Yet, facing this purplish-scaled man, whose physical form could be seen but who seemed to lack presence altogether, was completely different. The purplish-scaled man had not intentionally exerted any pressure at all.

It was merely the natural aura he exuded that caused everyone to feel the need to look up to him.

It was a submission of life’s instinct!

“Stop!” A thunderous voice rang out from outside, echoing throughout the spaceship. Upon hearing the pressure within that voice, all the geniuses involuntarily felt fear. This caused the group of talented youths to feel helpless. They were merely Star-Level warriors, with a few recently promoted to Cosmic-Level. Before these great existences, if the latter did not restrain themselves, even a single glance might shatter their very souls.

Geniuses were geniuses, but not yet true experts.

Their journey had only just begun.

“It is I. Open the cosmic channel!” the purplish-scaled man said indifferently.

His voice pierced through the spaceship and reached the outside.

“Boom!”

A low sound echoed from outside, and the spaceship resumed its forward motion.

“Hmm?”

“This feels so uncomfortable.”

“This isn’t right.”

The thousand geniuses all turned pale, and Luo Feng felt a throbbing pain in his head. Struggling to open his eyes, he could not see clearly around him.

“We are now in the channel between the Primordial Universe and the Original Universe,” the purplish-scaled man said, looking at the pale young people, some of whom had already collapsed to the ground. “The time flow rates of the Primordial Universe and the Original Universe differ, causing chaotic time flow within the channel, which makes you feel uncomfortable.”

Among the thousand youths, barely three hundred could stand.

“I can’t see clearly anymore,” Luo Feng gritted his teeth, squinting.

“Wow, Luo Feng, the cosmic channel! The legendary place. The time flow feels like this? Even I, as an artificial lifeform, feel strangely affected. Haha, how amazing! Simply amazing,” Babata, however, was extremely excited. “Such an opportunity is rare!”

After about five or six minutes, the discomfort faded.

Luo Feng finally regained clarity.

“Hmm?” Luo Feng scanned his surroundings and noticed many people lying on the ground, their faces pale, with tears streaming down. Soon, they all scrambled to their feet, hastily wiping away their tears and returning to normal.

“We have now entered the Primordial Universe,” the purplish-scaled man said with a smile.

“The Primordial Universe?”

“Have we arrived at the Primordial Universe already?”

The talented youths from various cosmic nations were filled with curiosity. Even the more than ten Immortals who had come together with the purplish-scaled man—’Nine-Sword Venerable’—each had eyes filled with anticipation, occasionally glancing upward.

“Open the top,” the purplish-scaled man said.

Whoosh~~ The metallic ceiling above the hall automatically parted, revealing an outermost layer that appeared transparent like glass. In an instant, the top of the hall became transparent, allowing everyone to look upward and see the outside. Luo Feng also looked up and immediately saw that the outside was dim, with occasional drifting chaotic currents.

In the distance, the sky could be seen occasionally splitting open. One could even glimpse numerous strange secret runes flowing along the edges of the spatial rifts. Threads of light connected these rifts, with runes drifting along the threads like a loom weaving the fabric of the universe wider and wider.

“What is this?” Luo Feng felt the strange secret runes flowing along the crystalline threads emanating from the distant spatial rifts.

The more than ten Immortals, however, were staring upwards, occasionally closing their eyes in contemplation, and at other times observing carefully.

The spaceship continued flying.

Frequently, cosmic spatial rifts and those strange threads of secret runes could be seen…

“Stars and planets have lifespans, and so does the universe, though its lifespan is immeasurably long,” the purplish-scaled man smiled. “The Primordial Universe is a newly formed universe in the ‘dawn of creation’ period. During this initial phase, the universe is constantly evolving and forming. The fundamental operational rules of the universe will become externally visible.”

“The spatial rifts constantly repairing themselves are manifestations of the universe’s fundamental operational rules, within which lie various fundamental laws.”

The thousand people, including Luo Feng, listened in stunned silence.

Those crystalline threads repairing the cosmic space, with countless runes floating along them, were the operational laws of the universe?

“The Original Universe we inhabit is an immeasurably vast, immense, and perfect universe,” the purplish-scaled man continued. “Precisely because it is perfect, its operational laws cannot be externally manifested. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to comprehend them. However, in the Primordial Universe, these laws are directly visible to the naked eye. You can see how various laws perfectly combine, how the universe forms, and how its rules operate—all directly visible, making them much easier to understand and grasp.”

“The opportunity to cultivate in the Primordial Universe is thus extremely precious,” the purplish-scaled man said, glancing at the more than ten Immortals.

Each of those Immortals was looking upwards, clearly cherishing every moment.

“Close,” the purplish-scaled man commanded.

The top immediately sealed shut.

In truth, seeing those threads of secret runes drifting along the spatial rifts, Luo Feng understood that ‘external scenery simulation’ could not replicate them. Because those runes required not only visual perception but also a sense of feeling. Relying solely on technology to simulate them accurately was impossible. If it were possible, there would be no need for everyone to enter the Primordial Universe.

“Shortly, we will arrive at Chaos City,” the purplish-scaled man said. “Chaos City is where cultivators who enter the Primordial Universe to cultivate reside and train. You are the ones I have guided here. I hope to see all of you alive after thirty years.”

“Die?”

“Could there be danger?”

Luo Feng and others felt puzzled.

“Remember, upon entering Chaos City, first listen to the instructions of the Chaos City reception envoy and understand the rules clearly. Well, we’ve arrived,” the purplish-scaled man finished, and the spaceship began to slow down.

This giant fish soared through the vast cosmic space.

Shortly after the top sealed shut, the giant fish flew above an ancient city. The hatch on its underbelly opened, and the thousand geniuses flew out. Then the hatch closed, and the ‘fish’ swished its tail and disappeared into the distance once more.

“This Primordial Universe feels so unique.”

“It feels so comfortable.”

“Yes, very comfortable.” A group of young people hovered in midair, and Luo Feng looked down at the ancient and majestic city below. As a city built within the Primordial Universe, it gave off a sense of weightiness.

A streak of black light approached from afar.

“Everyone, I am the emissary of Chaos City,” a resonant voice echoed as a figure clad in black robes, his head adorned with azure scales, soared through the air and came to a graceful halt, his lips curling into a welcoming smile. “This metropolis is known as Chaos City, a realm whose origins stretch back further than the birth of most cosmic civilizations you know! Presently, it stands under the collective stewardship of the Virtual Universe Corporation, the Giant Axe Dojo, the First Cosmic Bank, the Cosmic Galaxy Bank, and the Cosmic Mercenary Alliance.”

Silence.

The thousand young people all looked at this Chaos City envoy.

“Follow me,” the envoy smiled and flew downward.

The thousand youths descended from the sky and landed on the streets of Chaos City. The streets of Chaos City were wide enough for dozens of people to walk abreast.

“Chaos City has existed for countless ages,” the envoy walked ahead, explaining as he went. “Coming to Chaos City for cultivation has given rise to one super existence after another.”

“Hmm?”

Luo Feng looked around. Within Chaos City were rows of small buildings. Many rooftops had variously looking humans sitting cross-legged, some even carving something into the rooftop ground. The powerful auras emanating from them were far stronger than Sovereigns. Some cultivators were muttering something to themselves.

Luo Feng looked up at the sky.

High above, near the distant cosmic spatial rifts, one could vaguely see figures standing midair. Occasionally, these beings would look down at Luo Feng and his group.

“Another group of little ones has arrived.”

“Number 11 envoy is handling them; they must be the little ones from the Virtual Cosmic Company.”

“I heard that the Virtual Cosmic Company recruited a young man named ‘Bolan’ this time. He’s quite impressive.” Some great existences near the cosmic spatial rifts chatted with each other.

Luo Feng and his group of little ones were all very low-key. They could feel that there were many Immortals here. And the Immortals were quite restrained, not daring to recklessly release their auras… However, throughout Chaos City, more than ten powerful auras surged straight into the heavens, clearly felt even by Luo Feng and his companions.

It was as if more than ten peerless ferocious beasts were crouching in different parts of Chaos City.

“There are many super existences within Chaos City,” the envoy turned back and said. “Never disturb their cultivation of the fundamental laws. If you do, we will have no choice but to expel you from the Primordial Universe, ending your cultivation opportunity this time.”

Everyone nodded.

The envoy directly entered a small, unoccupied building nearby.

“In the City of Chaos, countless small structures stand. Should you encounter a door of ghostly pallor, know that the dwelling lies unclaimed,” the envoy motioned toward the threshold. “Merely press your palm against the door for but a heartbeat. The arcane sensing mechanism within shall awaken of its own accord, shifting the portal’s hue to shadowed iron. In that very moment, the sanctum shall become yours by right, your essence forever bound within its stones. Heed this well – no soul may claim more than one sanctuary.”

As he spoke, the envoy reached the rooftop.

The rooftop was quite large, about a hundred meters in both length and width, enough to accommodate a thousand people.

“What is this?” Luo Feng saw many carved patterns on the rooftop ground, many of which seemed mysteriously profound.

“This… this…” Luo Feng examined them closely, gradually becoming entranced.

Many young people were similarly captivated.

“Space fundamental laws.”

“These contain the fundamental laws of space!” many young people exclaimed.

“Everyone,” the envoy’s voice entered each person’s mind, causing everyone’s souls to tremble and awaken. “Chaos City, generation after generation of countless powerful existences have sat on these rooftops cultivating, carving occasionally during their cultivation. Thus, many carvings containing these powerful beings’ contemplations of the fundamental laws have been left behind. If you are interested in these, most of the dwellings in Chaos City are currently unoccupied. You can explore building after building. Perhaps some of the carvings were left by ‘Venerables’ recording their insights.”

The group of young people’s eyes sparkled with excitement.

“First of all, I must inform you of a very important rule!” the envoy said solemnly. “In the Primordial Universe, it is strictly forbidden for humans to kill each other. Whoever dares to act will surely die.”

“No one is an exception, not even a cosmic nation’s monarch can challenge the rules of Chaos City.”

“Understood.”

The group of young people nodded.

“The time ratio between the Primordial Universe and the Original Universe is 1:3.28,” the black-robed envoy smiled. “Your cultivation period here will be slightly over thirty years.”
