Chapter 17: Midnight in the Prison Cell

In the dead of night, the sky was devoid of both moon and stars, casting Luo Feng’s cell into complete darkness, save for the faint light from the corridor outside.

“Zzz~~” The rhythmic sound of slumber reverberated through the dungeon chamber, marking the sacred hour of nocturnal repose.

Suddenly—

On the upper bunk to the left, Luo Feng, who had been lying down, abruptly sat up. His legs crossed, soles facing upward, his hands resting on his thighs, palms upturned, spine straight.

“According to the article I read at the Limit Gym, there is only one method of cultivating primal energy worldwide—the Five Hearts Facing Heaven Technique. Most people who meet the physical requirements of a warrior can begin cultivating primal energy,” Luo Feng inhaled deeply. “The article said the first ‘sensing’ is the hardest!”

To absorb the faint energy of the cosmos, one must first sense it.

According to the article, this energy is everywhere on Earth and even in the vastness of space. However, the vast majority of humans are completely unaware of its existence.

“As long as one can ‘sense’ it, absorption becomes simple.”

“Gifted individuals can sense it on the first day of training. Those with lesser talent may take months or even a year just to sense cosmic energy.” Luo Feng adjusted his breathing, maintaining the Five Hearts Facing Heaven posture. The ‘five hearts’ referred to the soles of both feet, the palms of both hands, and the Baihui acupoint atop the head.

“Breathe in, breathe out…”

Luo Feng’s breathing gradually calmed, and he focused on quieting his mind.

“The body must be relaxed, the five hearts naturally facing heaven. The heart must be still, calm like a mirror-like lake.” Luo Feng’s self-control was strong, and gradually he became completely still, his heart serene.

Silence reigned, his breathing barely perceptible.

One minute, two minutes… thirty minutes, an hour…

“Hmm?” Luo Feng suddenly opened his eyes in the darkness. “Where is this cosmic energy they speak of? Why can’t I sense it? My mind should have been extremely calm. Could it be, as the article said, that geniuses sense it in a day, while those with lesser talent take months or even a year?”

“I’ll try again.” Luo Feng closed his eyes once more, attempting to sense the cosmic energy described in the article.

Relaxation and stillness.

These were the two most emphasized aspects of the Five Hearts Facing Heaven technique.

“Still not right.” Half an hour later, Luo Feng opened his eyes again.

Luo Feng now truly realized that the first step of cultivating primal energy—sensing—was extremely difficult.

“One last try. If I fail, I’ll wait until tomorrow night. Please, let it work.” Luo Feng hoped silently, closed his eyes, and once again quieted his mind, attempting to sense the cosmic energy.

Time passed, minute by minute. Ten minutes… thirty minutes… fifty minutes… one hour and twenty minutes…

“Why hasn’t it worked yet?”

In near-meditative silence, Luo Feng’s thoughts slowed.

Gradually…

In this near-meditative state, Luo Feng had initially harbored a faint hope of sensing cosmic energy. But as time passed, he nearly fell asleep. After all, even an ordinary person sitting in silence with eyes closed for half an hour in the middle of the night would likely drift off, let alone Luo Feng, who had already persisted for three hours.

On the verge of sleep, Luo Feng had forgotten all about sensing cosmic energy.

“Feels so good.”

On the edge of sleep, Luo Feng vaguely sensed a faint current entering his body through the soles of his feet, the palms of his hands, and the Baihui acupoint on his head, slowly flowing in.

“What is this?” Luo Feng was half-asleep.

“This is cosmic energy!!!” Luo Feng suddenly jolted awake, his eyes wide open, and the sensation vanished instantly.

Luo Feng himself hadn’t expected that, on the verge of sleep, he would faintly sense the cosmic energy.

“I felt it! I felt it! That must have been cosmic energy!” A surge of joy filled Luo Feng’s heart. “According to the article, once one reaches the threshold of a warrior, most people can cultivate primal energy. Even without conscious sensing, the body will absorb it at an extremely slow rate unconsciously.”

Luo Feng understood that what he had sensed was likely his body spontaneously absorbing cosmic energy, albeit at an incredibly slow pace.

“That was the feeling.”

Luo Feng immediately closed his eyes again, attempting to sense it once more. Gradually, his breathing calmed, and his mind stilled. His consciousness focused on the soles of his feet, the palms of his hands, and the top of his head, striving to sense that faint current he had felt before.

In a daze, it seemed as though he sensed it again, yet it also seemed elusive.

Gradually, the sensation became clearer.

There it was!

Faint, delicate threads of energy gently drifted, barely permeating as they neared the soles of his feet, moving at an excruciatingly slow pace.

“This is cosmic energy.” Luo Feng focused his consciousness on the ‘five hearts,’ naturally emitting thoughts of absorbing cosmic energy. Instantly, the absorption rate through the soles of his feet, the palms of his hands, and the Baihui acupoint on his head increased by nearly a hundredfold.

If initially, cosmic energy had been like a trickle from a crack in a pipe, slowly seeping into Luo Feng’s body,

Now, that crack had widened, and a steady stream flowed continuously into Luo Feng’s body.

“Ahh~~~” A tremor from deep within his bones coursed through Luo Feng’s body, causing him to shudder involuntarily. These invisible, colorless cosmic energies, upon entering Luo Feng’s body, were voraciously devoured by every cell that had been starved for far too long. They poured in through the five channels.

Within the cells.

As cosmic energy entered the cells, it was rapidly absorbed by the mitochondria, releasing a strange energy that was quickly taken up throughout the cell. The cell itself immediately began undergoing dramatic changes. The DNA gene blueprint underwent subtle alterations, and the cell began to divide, one splitting into two.

Minute by minute, time passed…

Luo Feng’s body was constantly changing. Whether it was the surface skin, muscles, bones, or the deeper cells and even the genes themselves, all underwent slight transformations. This was the evolution of life, the optimization of genetic material!

“As the cultivation method stated, since birth, the human body has never consciously absorbed cosmic energy. Therefore, it has always been in a state of hunger. The first absorption of cosmic energy is the most significant, and the fastest increase in power!” Luo Feng felt his entire being, from the inside out, undergoing fundamental changes.

Across the entire Earth, and even within the cosmos, there was an infinite amount of cosmic energy. What Luo Feng had absorbed was negligible.

But for Luo Feng himself, it was the most remarkable improvement he had experienced from childhood to the present!

Bone density increased, cell size decreased, one cell splitting into two. Muscle tissue began to optimize naturally, and Luo Feng’s body weight also increased accordingly.

Life is so wondrous!

Within the brain.

Unbeknownst to Luo Feng, deep within his cerebral cortex, as cosmic energy surged in and flowed into his brain. From the day of his birth until now, only three tremors had ever occurred in this deep region of his brain, each causing Luo Feng to fall into a coma. But tonight, with the massive influx of cosmic energy,

A change occurred in the brain’s depths unlike any of the previous three. This change was more subtle… so subtle that even the meditating Luo Feng remained unaware.

……

“Ding~~Ding~~Ding~~”

At dawn, as the sun rose, the sound of bells rang through the detention center. It was barely five or six in the morning, and the prisoners began to wake. Luo Feng, who had been sitting cross-legged for a long time, finally opened his eyes, a faint smile on his face: “Indeed, from childhood to now, this first deliberate absorption of cosmic energy lasted the longest. It took nearly two hours to reach saturation.”

Luo Feng could feel the immense surge of strength within his body!

“The improvement from this single night of cultivation seems even greater than the physical enhancement I experienced after my last coma during the college entrance exam.” Luo Feng had this feeling. “I estimate that a single punch can now reach 1500kg, maybe even more.” Exactly how much he had improved would only be known after detailed testing.

“Breakfast time! Breakfast time!” Many of the detainees in the detention center left their cells to eat.

Luo Feng jumped down from his bunk, brushed his teeth, washed his face, and prepared to have breakfast.

At that moment—

In the corridor outside the cell, three suspects in prison uniforms passed by Luo Feng’s cell. One of them called out, “Bald Huang, I heard that a master has arrived in your cell, injuring four senior students from a martial arts academy.”

“Brother Liu, he’s quite formidable,” the bald, muscular man in Luo Feng’s cell replied with a nod and a smile.

“Oh.”

The three prisoners exchanged glances, and one of them whispered, “No mistake. The cell number, age, and strength all match. This must be the one Brother Zhou mentioned.”
