Chapter 1277: The Calm Before the War

Mechanical Clan Territory.

“It was originally planned that the three clans would join forces to capture a group of human Cosmic Lords. This would be used to pressure the human race into submission… However, now it seems that even if the three clans alone eventually succeed, the losses would likely be enormous. It seems we’ll have to rely on our vassal clans.”

“Hmph, vassal clans! These vassal clans won’t risk their lives in battle without gaining any benefits.”

“We have no choice… Although the vassal clans aren’t as strong as our own, giving them benefits will keep them within our control. If we further disperse the inheritance… allowing the Jails, Crystals, Starry Sky Beasts, and other clans to obtain it, our clan will lose its major advantage.”

“Hmm.”

The Demon Clan, Mechanical Clan, and Insect Clan each have their own vassal clans.

Just like humans, who also have vassal clans, forming the Hong Alliance!

However, at the beginning of the war… none of the four peak clans used their vassal clans, because deploying the vassal clans naturally meant sending their Cosmic Lords into battle. These Cosmic Lords were no fools; they wouldn’t willingly become cannon fodder without conditions.

The three clans—Demon, Insect, and Mechanical—believed that once they obtained the inheritance, there would be no need to share it with the vassal clans. However, after one battle… the results of this battle made the three clans wary, prompting them to immediately start rallying additional forces.

“Monka Ancestor, Zhenyan Ancestor, the outcome of this battle has already spread. The humans are extremely powerful… while each of our vassal clans may only have one or two, or at most two or three Cosmic Lords, the loss of any one of them would be a catastrophe for their clan, leaving us no choice but to be cautious. Therefore, we have four conditions.”

“Speak,” Zhenyan Ancestor responded.

“First, if we are to participate in the battle, we must be allowed to gather together and not be separated.”

“Second, if any of us perish in battle, his clan must be treated favorably by the Demon Clan, their territory shall not be diminished, and no external clan’s powerful individuals may interfere with their development.”

“Third, after the battle, if we obtain the inheritance of the Dondor River lineage, we do not seek much—only information regarding the cultivation experience of becoming a Cosmic Overlord.”

“Fourth, in the future, if the Demon Clan creates a Sacred Universe, one-tenth of its space must be reserved for our vassal clans.”

Clearly, the vassal clans had already discussed this thoroughly, and their conditions were carefully considered—not daring to ask for too much. They only sought the cultivation experience of becoming a Cosmic Overlord, because for their clans, having even one Cosmic Overlord emerge would establish a true foundation for their race!

“Fine! I agree to your conditions,” Zhenyan Ancestor said after a moment’s thought, then directly accepted.

The Demon Clan, Insect Clan, and Mechanical Clan began offering conditions to win over their vassal clans, prompting the Cosmic Lords of these vassal clans to also join this terrifying war!

In the human territory, on an ordinary life-bearing planet, the planet was bustling with hundreds of billions of humans living in a highly developed technological society, with skyscrapers reaching into the sky.

On the rooftop of one such skyscraper.

Hua!

A blurry figure gradually materialized and solidified into a figure dressed in a purple, ornate robe, with silver hair cascading down his back. His face looked both masculine and feminine, exquisitely handsome, with eyes that shimmered with starlight, each glimmer resembling the movement of a universe. With a wave of his hand, three figures instantly appeared behind him.

One was a towering rock lifeform, one was a cute yellow-furred beast, and one was a figure shimmering with waves as if made of water.

“Island Master,” the three powerhouses addressed him.

“Choose a place to temporarily settle down,” the figure in the purple robe said, gazing into the distance. His vision pierced through the atmosphere, through layers of space-time, to a vast continent floating in the starry expanse of the cosmos—the headquarters of the Virtual Universe.

“The Demon Clan has suffered a setback. Now, the Demon Clan, Insect Clan, and Mechanical Clan will surely do their utmost and dare not slack off… However, secretly, my friends might not be able to stay idle. Most of them have probably already entered human territory. The Axe has died, and now the greatest foundation of the human race is—the Original Universe!” the figure in the purple robe said with a light smile. “And the way to get from the Original Universe to the Initial Universe is through cosmic channels! These channels were established back when the Originator was still around. Now that the Originator is permanently sealed… no new cosmic channels connecting the Initial and Original Universes can be built, making these channels extremely important.”

“If the channels are destroyed.”

“Then every time humans need to travel from the Initial Universe back to the Original Universe, they’ll have to rely on Cosmic Lords to ferry them.”

“As far as I know, there are two channels connecting the Initial Universe and the Original Universe—one is at the Virtual Universe headquarters, and the other is at the Primordial Secret Region.”

“Judging by the level of defense.”

“The first major battle will be at the Virtual Universe headquarters.”

“The second major battle, and the final war, will be at the Primordial Secret Region,” the figure in the purple robe said softly.

Across the entire Original Universe, the nine major superpowers combined are barely stronger than the independent Cosmic Overlords. In the face of this great storm, these independent strongest beings naturally have their own plans. Obviously, the astonishing outcome of the humans’ first battle has also made these independent strongest beings think carefully.

In the human territory, within the Primordial Secret Region.

Luo Feng, Dark Master, and Penggong Master were sitting together, drinking wine.

“The Demon Clan, Insect Clan, and Mechanical Clan are all quiet now!” Dark Master suddenly put down his cup, his voice heavy. “Not long after the war began, the three clans took action. We went to fight the Demon Clan… but unexpectedly, all three clans retreated. This retreat has lasted half a month, and they’re still quiet.”

Penggong Master shook his head and smiled. “The outcome of our first battle put pressure on the three clans… This preparation, once the news spread, was known to all the clans. Since that’s the case, the Insect Clan, Demon Clan, and Mechanical Clan naturally no longer needed to rush.”

Luo Feng nodded. “Yes, previously, they wanted to strike quickly, to crush everything in one move. Now that hope is gone, they naturally proceed more cautiously, not wanting to do all the work for other clans.”

“Yes, other clans!” Dark Master furrowed his brows.

“It’s not just other clans, there are also those independent Cosmic Overlords,” Luo Feng also put down his cup. “The Originator told us that according to his monitoring… there should already be several Cosmic Overlords within our human territory. But none of them have made any moves, probably all independent Cosmic Overlords.”

“Independent Cosmic Overlords!” Penggong Master and Dark Master also furrowed their brows.

Extremely terrifying existence.

The Virtual Universe’s surveillance could be forced to retreat—it could only be a Cosmic Overlord who did that. Thus, it’s easy for them to monitor information. In the past, the Originator usually didn’t bother monitoring anything. But now, with the fate of the human race at stake, he naturally monitors constantly, keeping track of the movements of all factions in the Original Universe at all times.

“Fortunately, the outcome of the previous battle has improved our situation a lot. Now, quite a few factions have come to join us,” Luo Feng said softly.

“Hmm,” Master Penggong also smiled. “The Piaofeng Alliance and the Thorn Ring Alliance—these two are the stronger factions. Then there are some weaker factions… various scattered clans and so on. But since they dared to come and join us, each clan must have at least one Cosmic Lord. Now, the total number of Cosmic Lords who have joined us has reached ninety-two!”

“The situation has improved a lot,” Dark Master also nodded.

Before the first battle.

Even the vassal clans within the Hong Alliance were very cunning. They wouldn’t easily risk their lives for the humans, fearing that the humans lacked the strength to resist. Even if they rushed forward, it would only be to throw their lives away! So before the first battle, the human race didn’t even bother to ask the Cosmic Lords of their vassal clans to join.

But now it’s different. The outcome of the first battle has given the vassal clans within the Hong Alliance peace of mind—they at least have a fighting chance!

The Hong Alliance itself, plus the ninety-two Cosmic Lords who have joined.

“Although compared to the upcoming allied forces, we’re still weaker, but we now have the strength to fight!” Luo Feng said solemnly. “According to estimates, the Demon Clan, Mechanical Clan, Insect Clan, Jail Clan, and Crystal Clan—these five clans will likely all target us.”

“Now, the key to this war lies with the Northern Border Alliance, the Ancestral God Religion, the Starry Sky Beast Alliance, and the independent Cosmic Overlords. If any of these factions can stand on our side… our chances of victory will increase!”

“The leader of the Northern Border Alliance is an independent Cosmic Overlord. Without his backing, the Northern Border Alliance likely wouldn’t dare to enter the fray. The key factor lies with their leader,” the Dark Master pondered. “As for the Ancestral God Religion and the Starry Sky Beast Alliance… their stance remains unpredictable. These two factions have always maintained relative neutrality.”

“Neutral? When faced with the temptation of transcending samsara, can they still remain neutral?” Master Penggong sneered. “The Ancestral God Religion may appear formidable now, bolstered by the cosmic origin. But once this cycle of samsara concludes… they’ll all be forced to depart from the Primordial Universe! Without the support of the Primordial Universe, the Ancestral God Religion’s power will inevitably wane significantly. Won’t the Cosmic Lords of the Ancestral God Religion—those three Ancestral Gods—have to contemplate transcending samsara? As for the Starry Sky Beast Alliance, that ancient Beast God is utterly ruthless, so we must proceed with caution. If they truly intended to aid us humans, they would have reached out to our clan by now, yet there hasn’t been the slightest indication.”

Luo Feng also frowned.

Indeed.

Thanks to the first battle, some of the lesser factions and scattered clans are now willing to take a gamble and stand with humanity. However, none of the true superpowers have helped the humans, not even a single Cosmic Overlord has sided with humanity. Humanity’s disadvantage remains significant.

As Luo Feng, Dark Master, and Penggong Master were discussing.

“Hmm?” Suddenly, Luo Feng flipped his hand, revealing a token.

Dark Master and Penggong Master also turned to look at Luo Feng.

“Ahh.” Luo Feng’s face lit up with a hint of joy as he looked up at Dark Master and Penggong Master. “Dark, Penggong, I have something to do. If this matter is handled well, it will greatly help in this war. If there’s anything urgent, contact me directly through the Virtual Universe.”

“Alright, go then,” Dark Master said.

“If it helps? Then hurry up and go!” Penggong urged more eagerly.

Luo Feng immediately stood up, his heart filled with joy. Right after the Axe’s death, he had contacted his teacher, the Mountain Master.

Now, the Mountain Master had finally come to the human territory and wanted to meet him.
