Chapter 984: Borrowing the Blade

“How could it fail? Senior Brother, you couldn’t even kill Dongbo Xueying?” Chimei Mountain Master asked urgently. Although his senior brother was an anomaly in their lineage, excelling in physical cultivation with countless avatars and unparalleled survival skills, his assassination techniques should still rank at the peak of the first tier of Cosmic Gods. How could he fail to eliminate a mere Chaos Realm cultivator?

The Master of the Myriad Realms Pavilion shook his head. “Chimei, this Dongbo Xueying possesses two supreme treasures and an unparalleled illusion technique. Even the Witch Ancestor and the World Ancestor would struggle to assassinate him. You and I are different—you excel in intangibility and close-quarters combat. If you could ascend to Cosmic God, I believe you could silently approach and eliminate him.”

Chimei Mountain Master seethed with frustration and helplessness.

In his eyes, his senior brother was utterly useless! Back then, he had chosen the strongest survival techniques, reaching a level comparable to their master’s, making him nearly unkillable.

Their lineage was inherently formidable in survival. Even Chimei Mountain Master, whose survival skills were considered weak, could achieve the pinnacle of intangibility upon becoming a Cosmic God. Moreover, he could split into nine avatars, allowing him to threaten even second-tier Cosmic Gods with his assassination techniques, achieving near-perfection.

Yet, even with nine avatars and the pinnacle of intangibility, he would still perish in the face of the “Great Annihilation of the Chaos Void.” However, with his master’s help, he could evade the final cataclysm.

“What a fool, obsessed only with survival, leaving his combat strength so weak. As for the Great Annihilation of the Chaos Void, couldn’t he just beg our master when the time comes?” Chimei Mountain Master thought darkly.

The Master of the Myriad Realms Pavilion, however, believed in relying on oneself. Though selfish and ruthless, he harbored no grand ambitions.

“You fear death, yet now you’ve ruined my plans,” Chimei Mountain Master said anxiously. If Dongbo Xueying lived, why would the Cosmic Gods seek his help to locate Golden Armor Nests?

“Senior Brother, I must contact our master,” Chimei Mountain Master declared.

“Contact our master?” The Master of the Myriad Realms Pavilion was surprised.

“Yes,” Chimei Mountain Master nodded. “We cannot allow Dongbo Xueying to live. If he does, more and more will master the World-Breaking Teleportation Technique. Who knows? He might even deduce the Avatar Technique one day.”

“Then go ahead,” the Master of the Myriad Realms Pavilion replied, fully aware of his junior brother’s true motives—likely the Origin World Stones. Unlike himself, who lacked ambition, Chimei Mountain Master was driven by grand aspirations.

Chimei Mountain Master nodded.

*Hum—*

Both disciples had means to contact their master, though Chimei Mountain Master approached the act with reverence. Unlike his senior brother, who lived freely without their master’s aid, he often relied on their master’s favor and thus had to tread carefully.

*Whoosh—*

An invisible ripple spread, causing the Supreme Laws to retreat. A translucent figure materialized—a bird-headed humanoid form—its voice echoing around them. “Myriad Realms, Chimei, you seek me?”

“Master,” the Master of the Myriad Realms Pavilion bowed respectfully, honoring the one who had guided him on the Dao.

“Master, there is a cultivator in this Chaos Void named Dongbo Xueying. He can perform the World-Breaking Teleportation Technique and spreads illusions everywhere. I suspect he used these illusions to extract foundational cultivation methods from my disciples and Senior Brother’s disciples, then…” Chimei Mountain Master began his explanation.

The translucent figure listened impassively. “Kill him? If you wish to kill him, do so. There’s no need to consult me.”

“Senior Brother’s assassination failed. We have no other means for now,” Chimei Mountain Master admitted.

“I am suppressed in this Chaos Void and cannot assist you. If there’s nothing else, I shall depart,” the translucent figure said coldly.

Chimei Mountain Master hesitated but dared not press further. He knew his master’s temperament well—once a decision was made, persuasion would only displease him. Having long mastered the art of pleasing his master, he chose silence.

“Senior Brother and I will find another way. We bid you farewell, Master,” Chimei Mountain Master said respectfully, subtly implicating his senior brother to present the matter as their shared concern.

“Farewell, Master,” the Master of the Myriad Realms Pavilion added, unbothered by his junior brother’s manipulation. Their differing strengths led to differing mindsets—while he could watch the Chaos Void’s cycles with detachment, his junior brother’s petty schemes merely amused him.

“Cultivate diligently and ascend to Cosmic God sooner,” the translucent figure instructed before vanishing.

The wilderness was left to the two disciples once more.

“Junior Brother, our master is suppressed here. I, too, cannot kill Dongbo Xueying,” the Master of the Myriad Realms Pavilion said before dissipating.

Alone on the desolate plain, Chimei Mountain Master stood in grim silence.

“No way? Suppressed by the Chaos Void? That old miser! If he bestowed a powerful void-type treasure, I refuse to believe Dongbo Xueying would survive,” he fumed inwardly. He knew his master’s unfathomable depths—even suppressed, the master could surely eliminate Dongbo Xueying if willing to pay the price.

But clearly, a mere Chaos Realm cultivator wasn’t worth the effort. Moreover, his master was too proud to care whether Dongbo Xueying had learned fragments from the Ninecloud Divine Emperor or deduced basics on his own. Their lineage’s heritage was vast and profound—he refused to believe Dongbo Xueying could deduce much without proper inheritance. After all, even the Ninecloud Divine Emperor had died without unlocking the Avatar Technique, a mere foundational skill of their lineage—one even Chimei Mountain Master had mastered.

After the assassination attempt, Dongbo Xueying teleported back to the Grand Void Heaven.

There, the Void Ancestor and the Witch Ancestor maintained avatars to study the scales left by General Megu. As the Void Ancestor put it: “These scales embody an astonishingly concise form of intangibility. If I can decipher them, my mastery of the void may advance further.” He was utterly engrossed.

The Witch Ancestor, ever fascinated by mysteries, coveted the “pinnacle of intangibility.” He hoped to inscribe the scale’s patterns onto his own body, granting him the same ability and bolstering his confidence against the Sacred Master.

“Dongbo Xueying, how goes your comprehension?” the Witch Ancestor’s avatar called warmly as Dongbo Xueying approached.

“Some progress,” Dongbo Xueying replied.

The Witch Ancestor was always eager to exchange insights with him.

The assassination attempt had prompted deep reflection. Dongbo Xueying even ordered his family to remain within the Grand Void Heaven unless permitted otherwise.

Time flowed on.

In the Azure Sky Realm of the Chaos Void—Chimei Mountain Master’s domain—a desolate palace stood atop a mountain peak.

With only a dozen or so servants, the palace was sparsely populated. Seated on his throne, Chimei Mountain Master gazed through the palace gates at the boundless Chaos Void.

“Dongbo Xueying,” he mused, devising plans.

The man had to die. Otherwise, his grand scheme—and the vast trove of Origin World Stones it promised—would collapse.

“Two life-preserving treasures? Senior Brother claims even the Witch Ancestor and the World Ancestor would struggle to kill him, leaving only the Sacred Master?” Chimei Mountain Master found it hard to believe. “Do those Cosmic Gods value Dongbo Xueying so highly?”

He didn’t know.

The infiltrating Destruction Demons suspected a “King” among them, prompting Dongbo Xueying’s risky investigations. Naturally, they equipped him with life-preserving artifacts. His discovery of another Golden Armor Nest had further delighted the Witch Ancestor and the World Ancestor, who bestowed the finest Chaos Realm survival treasures.

“What to do?” Chimei Mountain Master pondered.

One method lingered in his mind, but it involved provoking an unfathomably terrifying entity.

“There’s no other way. I must use the Sacred Master to kill Dongbo Xueying,” Chimei Mountain Master resolved, his eyes icy with determination.
