Chapter 964: The Eve of Outbreak

In one of the chaotic lands within the Void of Chaos, six Destruction Fiends had secluded themselves, led by none other than ‘General Mogu.’

“General Mogu, the Kings have issued strict orders—we must retreat to the most desolate regions,” his five subordinates urged.

“We’ve already hidden in a chaotic land. Must we hide further?” General Mogu, tall and gaunt with triangular eyes, gnashed his teeth in frustration. “All because of that Dongbo Xueying? What is there to fear? Even if a Cosmic God were to attack, I could instantly shift us into the void and escape. Let alone a mere Chaos cultivator!”

He had every reason for such confidence.

Aside from his weaker temperament and combat prowess, his ‘Shadowless’ talent was truly terrifying. Even among Cosmic Gods, few could truly shatter the prison of the Void of Chaos. If he shifted into the void, even something like the ‘Nine-Leaf Flower’ would be effortlessly traversed—after all, the Nine-Leaf Flower existed within the void itself.

If he could penetrate the spatial barriers painstakingly constructed by the combined efforts of Cosmic Gods, what was the Nine-Leaf Flower to him?

“General Mogu, your status is too exalted to risk even the slightest mishap. The Kings’ orders are absolute—we must obey,” the other five insisted, their gazes fixed upon him.

General Mogu clenched his jaw.

Yet, driven by the instinct ingrained in his very being, he dared not defy the will of the Kings towering above him.

“Fine, fine. We’ll hide again. But… when can we feast freely once more?” General Mogu’s eyes gleamed crimson, his soul aching with desire. The memory of devouring Palace Master Yuqian and the entire population of that vast city remained the most exhilarating moment of his existence. Even after hundreds of millions of years, he could not forget that bliss.

“The Kings have long decreed that cities under the protection of Chaos cultivators are heavily guarded. Each Chaos cultivator slain only provokes the Cosmic Gods further. Only because of your unique status and this being your first mission were you permitted to act once. If you wish to strike again, you must first reach the peak of the Eighth Layer,” his subordinates advised.

“The peak of the Eighth Layer?” General Mogu muttered under his breath.

It was no easy feat. The feast upon Palace Master Yuqian had granted him the greatest boost, swiftly elevating him to the Eighth Layer. But further progress grew increasingly arduous.

“Let’s go, then.” General Mogu cast one last glance across the chaotic land from within his opulent palace. “Before we leave, I shall devour all life here.”

“That is but a trivial matter.”

The other five raised no objections.

After all, a single chaotic realm was but a trivial speck. Mighty voidborn entities frequently descended upon such domains, devouring all life within. So long as they masked their auras and veiled their true power, even if the cultivators employed temporal retrospection to trace the events, they would perceive naught but the semblances of mundane practitioners—never suspecting the clawed fingers of the Annihilation Fiends.

Soon.

Amidst the despair of countless lives across the chaotic land, beings of all kinds were lifted into the twisted void, funneled inexorably into General Mogu’s gaping maw.

After his gruesome feast, General Mogu and his five subordinates vanished without a trace, retreating into the desolate wastelands to hide.

Since his last minor success—merely forcing two Golden-Armored Fiends to suicide without capturing them for interrogation—Dongbo Xueying’s subsequent investigations had yielded no further results. He had anticipated this; the Void of Chaos was simply too vast. Traveling from one Sacred World to another would take even a Void God billions of years if they traversed the spatial channels continuously.

To search every corner? It was an impossible task.

The Cosmic Gods of the Three Sacred Worlds understood this well. Once the Destruction Fiends chose to hide, there was almost no hope of tracking them down. They considered Dongbo Xueying’s mission effectively complete.

Their directive for him to investigate had never been about uncovering every last fiend—an impossible feat for anyone.

Their true purpose had been to confirm whether any ‘Kings’ among the Destruction Fiends had infiltrated, whether the spatial barriers had truly failed. If possible, capturing one to extract secrets from its soul would have been ideal. Dongbo Xueying had fulfilled most of these objectives—only the soul interrogation remained unachievable, a task even Cosmic Gods hesitated to undertake.

Take the Radiant Sovereign, for instance. Though capable of large-scale detection, even she could not control the souls of Golden-Armored Fiends.

Dongbo Xueying’s illusions were formidable, but these fiends possessed unshakable mental fortitude. Breaking their will was exceedingly difficult. Moreover, even the weaker Eighth-Layer peak Golden-Armored Fiends only operated alongside Ninth-Layer entities.

Time flowed on, and Dongbo Xueying continued his solitary journey across the realms.

This stretch of time felt even longer. With no further leads, he gradually shifted his focus to cultivation, his hopes of uncovering more Destruction Fiends dwindling.

“Dongbo, return at once.”

One day, while wandering afar, Dongbo Xueying received a summons from Patriarch Tianyu. Without hesitation, he activated a long-distance teleportation array and rushed back to the Sky Void Palace.

“What’s happening?” Dongbo Xueying and the other Hall Masters quickly convened. Of the Sky Void Palace’s thirteen Hall Masters, eight had their true bodies stationed at Void Fortress, while the remaining five had all returned to the palace. Not a single one remained outside.

“Either at Void Fortress or back here—what’s going on? What could be so urgent that the Patriarch demands our true bodies return?”

The Hall Masters gathered at the residence of the Chaos Hall Master, who had long been their de facto leader.

While the Hall Masters and Inner Hall Elders assembled, in another courtyard of the Sky Void Palace, three Cosmic Gods stood together: Patriarch Tianyu, the Sword Sovereign, and the Blade Emperor.

“We truly appreciate your assistance, Blade Emperor, for personally guarding our Sky Void Palace,” Patriarch Tianyu expressed his gratitude.

“Though the Witch Ancestor and City Lord Luo have also pledged their aid, my presence ensures greater security,” the Blade Emperor replied with a smile. “With me here, bolstered by the might of the Sky Void Palace, even if the Sacred Master himself were to arrive, wielding treasures forged from primal essence, he could shatter the Seven Seas Sacred World and still fail to breach our defenses in a short time. And should he grow reckless, the Primordial Devil Mountain, the Radiant Sovereign, the Witch Ancestor, and others would intervene.”

“Indeed,” Patriarch Tianyu nodded.

For this day, the Six Great Sacred Lands had prepared extensively, with even the Eternal Sacred World offering its support.

“Sword Sovereign, the stage is now yours,” the Blade Emperor turned to the white-haired man beside him. “All forces are ready, even willing to reignite war if necessary. Do not falter now.”

The Sword Sovereign smiled faintly. “I am deeply grateful for your aid. As for my task… rest assured. With but a little time, I have absolute certainty of success.”

Hearing “absolute certainty,” the Blade Emperor’s eyes gleamed with approval. He nodded inwardly, marveling at the man his master had chosen.

Truly extraordinary.

“The moment is yours,” Patriarch Tianyu added cheerfully. “All our Hall Masters and Inner Hall Elders are either at Void Fortress or have returned to the Sky Void Palace. Everything is prepared. We may act at any time.”

“Since all is ready, let us not delay. We proceed today,” the Sword Sovereign declared.

“Agreed.” Both the Blade Emperor and Patriarch Tianyu brimmed with anticipation, eager to witness what was to come.

This was the moment the Six Great Sacred Lands—and even the Eternal Sacred World—had long awaited.
