Chapter 72: Arrival

As he descended, through the howling black winds, Dongbo Xueying occasionally glimpsed dark figures—some enormous, others resembling ordinary humans. The invisible pressure they exuded varied in intensity. Some emanated such overwhelming might that a mere gaze might obliterate him. Others, though weaker, were still undeniably at the transcendent level. This realization made Dongbo Xueying’s heart tighten further.

While falling, he had vowed he would return. Partly to give his younger brother hope, and partly because he truly believed he could take a chance. But now, he understood just how difficult it was to survive and escape.

“Forget it all. I’ll just take one step at a time,” Dongbo Xueying steeled his resolve. “Right now, I must find a way to survive this fall.”

He gripped the bones of the massive scaled wing tightly, fully extending it.

The wind direction shifted unpredictably, but Dongbo Xueying struggled to maximize the resistance of the wing, slowing his descent.

“But it’s still too fast, too fast!” His falling speed kept increasing. “At this rate, I might actually die on impact!”

“Hmm?”

Suddenly, Dongbo Xueying’s expression changed sharply.

Because he could now clearly see the ground below!

“Almost there!” His heart clenched. Regardless of how many dangers lay within the Black Gale Abyss, if he died on impact, he wouldn’t even have a chance to fight.

“Boom—”

Suddenly, at about a hundred meters above the valley floor, the raging winds vanished.

It was as if there was a strange barrier layer. Below a hundred meters, there was absolutely no wind! Yet above, at the hundred-meter mark, the winds howled violently, blotting out the sky and earth!

Dongbo Xueying tore through the air with a sonic boom, plummeting straight down. Upon entering this hundred-meter zone, without any wind resistance, the drag from the massive scaled wings in his grip suddenly spiked! Dongbo Xueying felt his arms jolt violently. Fortunately, his body was strong, and at this critical moment, he maintained a burst of power, allowing him to withstand the impact.

Over the hundred-meter distance, Dongbo Xueying’s speed dropped rapidly.

But ultimately, a hundred meters was not far. His descent speed had been too great. In the blink of an eye, he crashed into the rocky mountainside with a thunderous boom. Although his speed had halved, it still exceeded the speed of sound, creating a massive crater in the rock.

“Boom—”

His feet hit first, followed by his entire body crashing down.

The mountain rocks were as soft as water.

To put it simply, given Dongbo Xueying’s terrifying physical strength, the rocks were indeed fragile. To him, crashing into the rocks was like an ordinary person jumping into water. However, when the speed and height were great enough, even water could kill.

“Huff.” He was momentarily stunned from the impact. The immense force caused his bones to crack audibly, and blood spurted from his mouth.

“Injured. Left arm bones broken, three ribs fractured. The worst part is the internal injuries.” Dongbo Xueying had an extremely precise awareness of his body. He felt a bit relieved, knowing that those final hundred meters allowed him to slow down. The impact had decreased by seventy to eighty percent. Otherwise, even with the scaled wings, he would have been smashed to death.

“Now, the injuries are serious. Internal organs damaged. I can’t handle any intense combat.” Dongbo Xueying immediately realized, “I must find a place to recover quickly. With my body’s regeneration ability, I can fully recover in three hours.”

Skin and flesh healed fastest, bones next, and internal organs slowest.

Regardless, Dongbo Xueying felt somewhat relieved. At the very least, he had survived the fall.

Then, Dongbo Xueying suddenly sprang upward, bursting out of the crater. He pushed off with his hands and crouched low, scanning the distance. He first saw the remains of the four-legged black-armored corpse. The impact had shattered its body completely, with only parts still visible. Suddenly, a black-armored soldier appeared in the distance, sprinting toward him at an incredible speed.

“Not good, I’ve been spotted.” Dongbo Xueying didn’t hesitate and immediately vanished in a blur.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

He quickly darted away but soon stopped in confusion, hiding behind a large rock over two miles away, secretly observing. By now, the black-armored soldier had reached the crater where Dongbo Xueying had landed.

“Hmm?” Dongbo Xueying’s vision was incredibly sharp. He immediately noticed that beneath the black armor, the soldier’s body was composed of dark mist. Even the eyes visible through the mask’s slits glowed faintly red.

“Not human, not a magical beast. It seems… not even alive?” Dongbo Xueying speculated with confusion. “I thought it had discovered me and was chasing me. Normally, a named-level warrior should have seen me clearly from that distance! But it merely went to check the crater caused by the impact and didn’t notice me.”

“It seems its vision isn’t great, or perhaps it doesn’t rely on eyesight at all?” Dongbo Xueying considered various possibilities.

Even so, judging from the black-armored soldier’s speed when it had transformed into a blur.

In terms of speed alone, the soldier completely surpassed Xiang Pangyun!

“First, I need to find a place to heal.” Dongbo Xueying observed his surroundings. Soon, he noticed a small cave in the nearby cliffside. As the black-armored soldier finished inspecting and turned away, Dongbo Xueying silently leapt over fifty meters, entering the small cave.

He had already sensed the cave with his divine power, confirming it was empty.

Standing at the cave’s edge, he cautiously looked in the direction the black-armored soldier had come from.

From a high vantage point, he saw far.

“That’s—”

Dongbo Xueying was somewhat startled.

In the distant horizon, about fifty to sixty miles away, stood a palace emitting a faint green glow. Outside the palace, numerous black-armored soldiers patrolled tirelessly. These soldiers showed no signs of fatigue, continuously marching. Besides the black-armored soldiers, there were other, fewer but more oppressive black creatures.

“Whether it’s the thousand-meter-long dragon-like creature perched high on the cliff earlier, or the other black creatures, including the weakest black-armored soldiers.” Dongbo Xueying nodded slightly. “It seems they’re all protecting that palace.”

“If I approach, I might be killed easily.” Dongbo Xueying muttered inwardly.

“Whatever. First, I need to heal.”

Dongbo Xueying retreated into the cave, casually sitting cross-legged. With a flick of his hand, he produced a large bone with meat attached. With a thought, flames appeared, and he began roasting it!

This meat bone came from Xiang Pangyun’s storage artifact. Indeed, both Xiang Pangyun and the divine messenger carried large quantities of food and water in their storage artifacts. This made Dongbo Xueying speculate that most named-level warriors probably carried food and water with them. As for the smell of roasting, Dongbo Xueying wasn’t worried. He could manipulate divine power, completely sealing off any scent from escaping the cave.

“Mmm, smells delicious. Xiang Pangyun must’ve been quite the foodie.” Dongbo Xueying began devouring it. The broken bones in his body naturally realigned and began healing. His internal injuries also gradually recovered.

That night felt endless.

Zong Ling and Tong San could still control their emotions, but Qing Shi was nearly broken.

“My brother will come back, he will! I won’t leave, I won’t! I’ll wait for him at the foot of Black Gale Cliff!” Qing Shi had initially refused to leave. Zong Ling had to persuade him: “Qing Shi, the Black Gale Abyss is so vast. Xueying might emerge from another part of Black Gale Cliff. When he comes out, he’ll head straight to Snowstone Castle. If you wait here at the foot, you might miss him.”

Only then was Qing Shi convinced, and the Black Moon Centipede flew back to Snowstone Castle.

“Whoosh!”

A cavalry unit arrived at Snowstone Castle in the dead of night, led by Si An, the representative of Longshan Pavilion.

The news of Xiang Pangyun’s battle with Dongbo Xueying was shocking. The spies stationed here by Longshan Pavilion had sent the report to Yishui City’s Longshan Pavilion at the earliest opportunity. Si An was greatly alarmed, disregarding sleep, rushing here immediately.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The drawbridge lowered, and the city gates opened.

“Master Si An.” Zong Ling personally came out to greet.

“How is it? Where is Dongbo Xueying? And Xiang Pangyun?” Si An asked urgently.
