The hall was filled with a faint stir of unease. Yufeng Junshan sat upon the throne, his expression icy, his eyes brimming with cold resolve.
He had chosen to stay, prepared to fight to the death!
The Yufeng Clan had prospered for countless ages, its members numerous. Over the past eight million years, Yufeng Junshan had discreetly sent away the younger and weaker members—those he deemed worthy of nurturing—to various cities. He had strictly ordered them to remain hidden, forbidding them from using the Yufeng name in public.
“Hmph, how many of my clansmen do you, the Heartfiend Society, even know? Even if you uncover most of the names, how many of your experts can actually track them down? Will you scour every city, every corner?”
“My Yufeng Clan has spared no expense in setting up countless formations. With the advantage of terrain, we will fight you to the bitter end.”
“If you wish to annihilate my clan, let’s see how many of your experts you’re willing to lose!” Yufeng Junshan’s killing intent surged. His only thought now was to take down as many enemies as possible before his own demise.
—
Bat Mountain Lord and Jian Yin Shenjun approached Dongbo Xueying. The three of them were all cultivation mentors of the Yufeng Clan.
“Brother Feixue, Brother Jian Yin,” Bat Mountain Lord transmitted via voice. “The City Lord has gathered us all here, within the Yufeng Clan’s estate. It seems he’s abandoned the outer city from the start, focusing all defenses on the inner city. For the enemy to force the Yufeng Clan to such measures, they must be terrifyingly powerful.”
“Bat Mountain Lord speaks wisely. Brother Feixue, what do you think?” Jian Yin Shenjun turned to Dongbo Xueying.
“Let’s wait and see,” Dongbo Xueying replied calmly, offering little else.
Bat Mountain Lord and Jian Yin Shenjun exchanged puzzled glances. They had hoped to form an alliance with this “Feixue Shenjun.” The three of them were among the strongest at the peak of the Shenjun realm, and together, they could hold their own even against an early-stage Divine Emperor. Yet Dongbo Xueying’s lack of enthusiasm was unexpected.
Dongbo Xueying’s gaze pierced through the hall’s entrance, surveying the distance.
Junshan City spanned hundreds of thousands of miles—this was the outer city. The Yufeng Clan’s estate, covering tens of thousands of miles, housed the core formations—this was the inner city.
As time passed, the unease in the hall grew palpable.
—
“They’re here!” Yufeng Junshan suddenly stood, his murderous aura unrestrained, his presence overwhelming. In an instant, he shot out of the hall like a streak of light.
“Second Brother, Third Sister, take care of yourselves!” The eldest son, Yufeng Lei, cast a glance at his siblings before following. Steward Tong was close behind.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
One after another, figures dashed out. More than half of the Yufeng Clan’s peak Shenjuns had exited the hall, swiftly forming battle formations.
The other experts, including Dongbo Xueying, were less eager. They merely stepped to the hall’s entrance, gazing at the distant sky.
“They’re here.”
“A battleship.”
In the far horizon, a massive vessel hovered.
Below, the city’s grand protective formation activated, a colossal dome shielding the entire outer city.
Suddenly, a giant hand emerged from the battleship—stretching miles long—and slammed into the barrier. The shield twisted briefly before shattering under the force. The battleship barely slowed, slipping through the breach and entering Junshan City with terrifying ease.
“So easily?” The gathered experts paled at the sight.
“Even though the City Lord abandoned the outer city and didn’t defend it fully, for the barrier to be shattered with a single strike… the enemy’s strength is monstrous.”
“An early-stage Divine Emperor shouldn’t be capable of this.”
“Could it be…?”
Dreadful speculations filled their minds.
Each minor breakthrough in the Divine Emperor realm was immensely difficult. Over ninety-nine percent of the Divine Emperors in the entire Divine Realm were only at the early stage. Reaching the mid-stage was a rare feat—those who did were usually ranked on the Divine Emperor Leaderboard, which listed only a thousand names. A mid-stage Divine Emperor was a force to be reckoned with.
—
The battleship’s arrival and the effortless destruction of the outer city’s barrier sent waves of panic through the populace. Many fled indoors, desperate to avoid the coming storm.
“Hide! Get underground!”
Chaos reigned.
Yet the battleship paid no heed to the common folk. Within moments, it loomed over the Yufeng Clan’s estate.
“Yufeng Junshan.” A voice, dripping with killing intent, boomed across the heavens, silencing the entire city.
A towering elder clad in thick black robes stepped forth from the ship, hovering mid-air. Behind him stood five Divine Emperors.
The elder smirked coldly at the estate below. “Yufeng Junshan, your time has come! Today, the Yufeng Clan will be uprooted entirely.”
“Heartfiend!” Yufeng Junshan rose to meet him, bathed in the radiant glow of his estate’s formations. “You think you can destroy my clan? Let’s see how many of your experts you’ll lose in the attempt!”
“You overestimate yourself,” the elder—Heartfiend Society’s leader—laughed. “I am Heartfiend. To all non-Yufeng experts in Junshan City: stand aside, and I will spare you. The Yufeng Clan falls today. Do not foolishly join them in death.”
With a wave of his hand, he commanded, “Attack.”
“Yes!”
The five Divine Emperors and the hundreds of Shenjuns aboard the ship surged forward, forming disciplined battle formations as they assaulted the estate.
Heartfiend himself joined the assault, striking with terrifying force.
“Hold them back!”
Yufeng Junshan clashed directly with Heartfiend, while the estate’s formations—reinforced over millions of years at great cost—held firm.
“Rip!”
Yufeng Junshan darted in and out of the barrier, launching hit-and-run attacks before retreating to safety. As the master of the formations, he could pass through them at will. Heartfiend, however, was barred until the defenses fell.
Boom!
The combined might of the five Divine Emperors and three hundred Shenjuns eclipsed even Heartfiend’s own power.
—
“Prepare for battle,” Yufeng Lei commanded, his gaze sweeping over Bat Mountain Lord, Dongbo Xueying, Jian Yin Shenjun, and the others. “The Yufeng Clan has treated you well. Now is the time to repay that loyalty. Betray us, and the formations will turn against you. With our battle formations and the estate’s power, crushing traitors will be effortless. This is our clan’s life-or-death moment. We will tolerate no betrayal.”
The gathered experts tensed, their faces grim.
“Now, follow my orders.” Yufeng Lei began assigning them to battle formations, each led by a Yufeng clansman to prevent mass desertion.
“We can only delay for now.”
“Hold out as long as possible.”
Bat Mountain Lord and the others wore uneasy expressions but dared not resist.
They knew the Divine Emperor Leaderboard—and the horror of facing someone like Heartfiend. The enemy had brought five Divine Emperors and three hundred Shenjuns. Even if Junshan City mustered all its forces, it couldn’t match that. Many, like the Tianxin Tower and the Xuanhuo Army, had refused to heed the Yufeng Clan’s call.
Boom!
Above, the battle raged.
Yufeng Junshan and his clansmen struck from within the barrier, but the enemy’s overwhelming force kept the formations trembling.
“It’s not good.” Yufeng Jin and Yufeng Qingyin, standing at the hall’s entrance, watched as cracks spiderwebbed across the estate’s ground. The formations were failing.
“Little Sister,” Yufeng Jin murmured. “I’ve failed to protect you.”
“It’s alright,” Yufeng Qingyin smiled softly. “Let’s stay here, together, and watch Father and Big Brother fight.”
“Mm.” Yufeng Jin nodded.
They were too weak to join the battle.
And since defeat was inevitable, they chose to witness their clan’s last stand.
Crash!
As more formations shattered, the dimming barrier finally gave way under the combined assault of the five Divine Emperors.
“It’s broken!” Panic flared among the experts. None wished to die for the Yufeng Clan.
“They’re coming!” Yufeng Qingyin tensed.
“Little Sister, let’s watch,” Yufeng Jin said through gritted teeth.
“Kill them all! Leave none of the Yufeng Clan alive!” Heartfiend’s voice thundered across the sky.
“Yes!” The five Divine Emperors and three hundred Shenjuns roared in unison.
