Chapter 112: First Display of Skill

The battlefield, stretching for miles, was a landscape of undulating hills and babbling streams, a place of remarkable beauty.

Boom!

A colossal figure descended from the sky and crashed into the battlefield, landing heavily on a hillside. The impact, weighing hundreds of thousands of pounds, left not a single scratch on the terrain. These “hills” within the battlefield were actually artificial scenery, specially crafted by extraordinary mages, not real landforms. Their resilience was such that even Celestial-level mages had no hope of damaging them.

“Hmm?” Dongbo Xueying gazed at the massive creature, while countless spectators on the western viewing platform gasped in astonishment.

It was an extraordinary alchemical beast, a lizard-like creature glowing with a deep crimson hue, nearly fifteen meters in length, its golden eyes fixed on Dongbo Xueying.

A faint smile appeared on Dongbo Xueying’s face.

In these Life and Death battles of the extraordinary, the opponents for each round were predetermined.

According to the rules, the extraordinary Life and Death battle consisted of three consecutive fights. After three rounds, one could rest for an hour to recover stamina and energy before continuing with another three rounds, followed by another hour of rest—and so on, until one was defeated and the battle ended!

Many newly initiated extraordinary warriors were defeated in the very first round. Especially mages, who generally fared poorly in one-on-one combat, were considered lucky if they managed to win three matches.

According to the predetermined plan, the opponents of the first and second rounds were both extraordinary alchemical beasts! Only starting from the third round would the native extraordinary warriors appear. The later the round, the more unique and formidable the opponents became!

“Roar~~~” The crimson lizard charged forward with heavy, earth-shaking steps.

Dongbo Xueying flipped his hand, and a black spear appeared in his grasp.

He casually twirled the spear. Though it bore no magical runes or enchantments, the transmission of force through the shaft was perfectly balanced.

“Whoosh!”

The crimson lizard instantly lunged at Dongbo Xueying, its massive clawed foot swinging down in a crushing strike. The watching crowd on the western platform gasped in fear, yet Dongbo Xueying merely shifted his feet and effortlessly evaded. His figure flickered as he continued to dodge the creature’s relentless attacks, never attempting to block or counter.

“Round one’s opponent is truly weak. I suppose even an average extraordinary knight could easily win,” Dongbo Xueying thought. Lacking much experience in fighting extraordinary opponents, he carefully observed and learned from each battle.

“Roll!”

Dongbo Xueying finally struck.

Whoosh!

The spear slashed in a wide arc, and swirling water currents appeared around it. The crimson lizard raised its claws to block, but at the moment the spear’s tip touched its claw, a strange rotational force twisted the spearhead sideways, slipping beneath the claw and piercing into the lizard’s underbelly.

Then Dongbo Xueying exerted force—upward!

Boom!

The crimson lizard was instantly launched into the air. As it tried desperately to stabilize itself mid-air, Dongbo Xueying struck again with a whip-like motion.

Before the lizard could react, the spear became a blurred phantom and struck its body with a thunderous crack, sending it hurtling through the air. It crashed into a distant hillside with a deafening boom, tumbling and staggering as it landed. A look of resignation crossed its face, knowing it had been defeated.

“Thud!” A deep drumbeat echoed through the Life and Death hall.

An invisible force descended, wrapping around the crimson lizard and pulling it out of the battlefield.

The countless spectators outside were in an uproar, clearly impressed. Dongbo Xueying had refrained from attacking until now, but when he did, he effortlessly sent his opponent flying. A black-clad youth flipping a ten-meter-long lizard through the air was a sight to behold.

“Round one concluded,” Dongbo Xueying said calmly. “This extraordinary alchemical beast was about equal to me in strength, but its combat techniques were far too crude.”

His body was at the middle Celestial level.

The lizard’s power was roughly at the same middle Celestial level. Yet in terms of combat skill, it was far inferior to someone like Xiang Pangyun. Dongbo Xueying’s current fighting techniques had improved vastly since then—he could now easily overwhelm Xiang Pangyun. Naturally, defeating an extraordinary alchemical beast was effortless.

Only ten breaths later,

“Whoosh!” Another figure dropped from above, landing and crouching atop the highest hill on the battlefield. This was a scorpion-like extraordinary alchemical beast. Its low-slung body bore a long, whip-like tail, its entire form jet-black. Its sharp claws bristled with spikes even at the joints of its limbs, making its entire body a living weapon.

It was clearly a much more troublesome opponent.

“This is the opponent for round two. Many extraordinary mages and even some weaker extraordinary knights have been defeated here,” Dongbo Xueying said, walking barefoot across the battlefield toward the black scorpion.

Not all who attained the extraordinary reached the Realm of Realm of All Things.

Some had barely achieved the Realm of Harmony between Heaven and Man and had barely crossed into the extraordinary ranks. Their strength was relatively weak, and many fell in the second round.

“Rippling streams~~~” The gentle stream flowed like silk ribbons around the hills.

Dongbo Xueying walked barefoot across the water’s surface, without using any celestial force or Mana, yet he still walked as if on solid ground, never sinking.

Each step he took exuded a natural grace, a rhythm that resonated with the invisible forces of heaven and earth!

He walked steadily toward the black scorpion above, while the beast crouched silently, watching its opponent with caution, waiting for the right moment.

……

Among the countless spectators, Yu Jingqiu watched Dongbo Xueying, clad in black and walking barefoot across the battlefield, striding steadily toward the black scorpion atop the hill.

She felt only one word: Handsome!

That natural grace of heaven and earth quickened her heartbeat.

“I just feel like he’s amazing.”

“How come even his walk feels so extraordinary?”

“Don’t you understand? His every step contains the mysteries of nature and the universe. Clearly, his insights into the Realm of All things are not only applicable to his spear techniques, but even his every movement can invoke the natural forces of heaven and earth. Every motion carries terrifying power.” An expert with a title immediately explained, and the others nodded in understanding.

The titled experts could at least vaguely perceive the mysteries, while the weaker commoners simply came to enjoy the spectacle. Watching extraordinary battles was already exciting and awe-inspiring enough!

……

Dongbo Xueying reached the summit of the small hill within the battlefield. The black scorpion, crouched and waiting, finally launched its attack as Dongbo Xueying approached closely enough.

“Whoosh!”

Fast as lightning, the black scorpion’s segmented tail struck toward Dongbo Xueying with unpredictable precision.

“Chi!” Dongbo Xueying’s black spear effortlessly blocked, infused with the mysteries of the water of All things. Throughout the battle, he had continuously used the water of All things, because it was more suitable for defense. Regardless of how weak his opponent was, caution was always necessary.

“Chi chi chi!” The black scorpion launched a furious assault.

Its tail, claws, and spikes rained down in a storm of attacks.

Yet Dongbo Xueying continued to defend, the spear surrounded by faint currents of water, keeping all attacks from approaching within two meters.

“Its combat techniques are mediocre, but its physical structure is advantageous. Some merely Harmony between Heaven and Man-level extraordinary knights would indeed fall easily to it. And mages, unskilled in close combat and unable to wield specialized artifacts, relying only on basic staffs, would indeed be easily defeated,” Dongbo Xueying observed. Then, he shifted from defense to attack.

The spear shaft spun.

The block transformed into a furious thrust, fast and strange. The force was so peculiar that the spear’s trajectory twisted in a curved path, making it nearly impossible to block, especially at such close range.

The black scorpion had no time to react before the spear struck the joint between its claw and body. With a loud bang, the beast was flipped sideways, rolling away.

“Fast and strange!” Some extraordinary warriors on the eastern viewing platform exclaimed in admiration. The mysteries of the water of All things, when applied to the spear, were indeed unpredictable. While extraordinary alchemical beasts might withstand brute force due to their physical advantages, against such strange techniques, even real extraordinary knights would struggle. Facing such techniques, the alchemical beast was at an even greater disadvantage. Dongbo Xueying easily pierced its vital spot, sending it rolling over ten meters before it finally stopped.

With a “Dong!” the deep drumbeat sounded again.

The black scorpion flew into the air, wrapped in invisible force, and was pulled out of the battlefield.

“Round three is about to begin,” Dongbo Xueying knew the danger. “Now, native extraordinary warriors of the extraordinary world will appear! Only by killing them can I win! And they will also seek to kill me!”

What was a Life and Death battle?

From the third round onward, it truly became a matter of Life and Death!

Both sides would fight to the death!

Of course, if a human was about to be killed, the demi-gods in charge of rescue would intervene. Usually, they could save the fighter, but if not, they would perish on the battlefield.
