Before this, Dongbo Xueying and the others had regarded the Sacred Master as their greatest enemy. Only now did they realize that their true adversary was ‘time’ itself. Once the appointed hour arrived, the Chaos Void would face its great destruction, and they would all be annihilated. Dongbo Xueying, with his avatar in the ‘Heart Realm Continent,’ could survive. But even if he returned in the future using the ‘Great Void Transference Technique,’ he would be unable to reincarnate and would be rejected by the next era of the Chaos Void.
“Not too long,” said the Stone Elder, glancing at the group of Cosmic Gods before him, then briefly at Dongbo Yu and Dongbo Qingyao, who were suppressing their shock. “The expansion of the Chaos Void is accelerating. Assuming you can withstand the onslaught of the Destruction Demons, the estimated time frame is between fifteen to twenty trillion years.”
“What?”
“So short?”
Everyone present was stunned.
Dongbo Xueying, despite his unparalleled talent, had taken over a trillion years to become a Cosmic God!
Even the Swordmaster paled. “So brief?” His comprehension was extraordinary, yet without venturing out to temper himself, merely focusing on secluded cultivation, it had taken him nearly twenty trillion years to reach the peak of the second level of Cosmic Godhood. He knew all too well that reaching the ‘Ultimate Realm of Cosmic Godhood’ would require breaking through several bottlenecks. Each fusion of paths was a major obstacle, and the final unification of all paths—pushing the Dao of Slaughter to its ultimate form—would be the most difficult.
“No wonder.”
The Swordmaster recalled a phrase the Sacred Master had once spoken to him: “I hope you can reach the third level before the final reckoning. Then, the world will become even more wondrous.”
Like the Stone Elder, the Sacred Master had lived through more than one era and could deduce the approximate timeline of the Great Destruction. Within this timeframe, the Sacred Master had believed the Swordmaster was the only one with a sliver of hope. As for others? In the Sacred Master’s eyes, they stood no chance.
“So short?” Dongbo Xueying felt a surge of urgency.
“My Void Path has already broken through all nine branches to the Cosmic God realm, accumulating profound depth. I believe advancing to the second level won’t be difficult. But reaching the Ultimate Realm requires fusing all nine branches—merging even two is challenging, let alone three, four… Each step is a hurdle.” Dongbo Xueying shook his head slightly. Even his master, the Southcloud Monarch, who had created the avatar technique and the Great Void Transference Technique, remained stuck at the second level of Cosmic Godhood.
“As for the Illusory Path, it’s even harder than the Void Path,” Dongbo Xueying sighed inwardly.
At least the Void Path had scriptures! In the entire Heart Realm Continent, some had reached the Ultimate Realm in the Void Path—such as the Xia Emperor.
But for the Illusory Dream Path, the highest achievement in the Heart Realm Continent was merely the second level of Cosmic Godhood.
…
The gathered Cosmic Gods were in turmoil, their minds racing with countless thoughts. Seeing this, the Stone Elder shook his head slightly.
He was used to it.
Once this era passed, none of these youngsters would likely remain.
“Elder Stone,” Dongbo Xueying spoke up. “Do you know of the Great Void Transference Technique?”
The Stone Elder nodded. “Having lived this long, I’ve encountered several outsiders who came to our Source World using the ‘Great Void Transference Technique.’ Some even conversed with me.”
“If one masters the Great Void Transference Technique, could they take others to another Source World and return after the next era is born in our homeland?” Dongbo Xueying asked.
“First, the Great Void Transference is already immensely difficult—let alone bringing others along?” The Stone Elder chuckled dismissively. “From what I know, transporting others through the Great Void Transference is an extreme challenge.”
“Second, if you leave and the Chaos Void undergoes its Great Destruction, birthing a new era, your return would mark you as an outsider—repressed and rejected,” the Stone Elder continued. “Unless, like the Sacred Master and me, you endure the Great Destruction itself, becoming part of the new era as the Chaos Void reforms. Only then will you avoid rejection.”
“Rejection?” Dongbo Xueying nodded faintly.
He understood.
Once rejected and suppressed, one’s strength would be limited to the Chaos Realm.
Still, with his avatar in the Heart Realm Continent, he could continue cultivating there. As for his wife and others, their maximum strength would be at the Chaos Realm—hardly a concern.
“The real issue is whether I can bring others through the Great Void Transference,” Dongbo Xueying mused. He suspected he would need to reach the Ultimate Realm of the Void Path to barely manage it.
“Elder.”
The Witch Ancestor pressed, “Are there any methods—such as pocket dimensions, inner universes, or personal spatial artifacts—that could allow others to survive the Great Destruction alongside us?”
“If such methods existed, my disciples from previous eras wouldn’t have all perished,” the Stone Elder replied, shaking his head. “The Great Destruction of the Chaos Void is an annihilation enforced by the Supreme Laws. Unless you can hide beyond the Source World, in a place untouched by the Supreme Laws, there is no escape.”
The Witch Ancestor nodded quietly, his expression somber.
He had suspected as much but had clung to hope.
Even if he were fortunate enough to reach the Ultimate Realm, what of those he cared about?
“Must one who reaches the Ultimate Realm live on alone like this?” The Witch Ancestor thought of the Stone Elder and the Sacred Master—both solitary figures—and felt a chill in his heart.
“Focus on your cultivation.”
“Time is short. In my view, Dongbo Xueying and the Swordmaster, with your rapid progress, may have a sliver of hope. The rest of you… your chances are slim, but miracles can happen,” the Stone Elder remarked with a sigh. “Train well. When the Great Destruction comes, perhaps one of you will stand beside me to witness the end of this era and the birth of a new Source World.”
With that, the Stone Elder turned and walked away, vanishing into the void.
He returned to his slumber within the Primordial Sun Star.
The Cosmic Gods left behind were filled with complex emotions. The Swordmaster and Dongbo Xueying were deemed to have a ‘sliver’ of hope—while the others faced near-impossible odds.
…
In the Sacred World.
Upon a black stone bed, the Sacred Master sat cross-legged, his eyes closed.
His heart was serene, yet countless thoughts flickered through his mind.
“In this era, the number of powerful experts has grown. That mysterious figure in my Sacred World eluded my capture—obtaining his techniques is now beyond reach. Even by the time of the Great Destruction, the accumulation of my Sacred Avatars will remain insufficient. This era… is a loss.”
“All that remains is to await the next era. Then, I shall fight once more.”
The Sacred Master immersed himself in cultivation.
…
After the battle in the Sacred World, the Sacred Master grew low-key, fading into silence for billions of years.
Meanwhile, in the Heart Realm Continent.
In the Southcloud Nation, the Flying Snow Emperor’s reputation was formidable, his name resounding across the four Black Devil Nations. None dared provoke him, and so Dongbo Xueying devoted himself entirely to cultivation. Back in his homeland, the Chaos Void continued to expand, inching ever closer to the ‘Great Destruction.’ The great ship of his homeland was slowly sinking, leaving Dongbo Xueying no room for complacency. He had to reach the Ultimate Realm before the Great Destruction arrived.
“Hiss—”
In a newly constructed meditation chamber, a pot of fruit wine warmed gently. Dongbo Xueying, appearing as a white-robed youth, sat with a cup in hand, lost in thought.
Around him, worlds unfolded like scrolls—some spinning into existence, others crumbling into oblivion.
“Hmm? What’s this?”
Suddenly, an intangible ripple swept across the land, penetrating even the meditation chamber and brushing past Dongbo Xueying. Though the ripple was subtle, he sensed it clearly—and it sent a shiver down his spine, stirring an inexplicable dread within him.
