Chapter 83: A Battle of Life and Death

This was a pangolin, its entire body bathed in a pale golden hue. Its massive form was astonishing in scale—several dozens of meters long, coiled there in a slumbering posture. Its golden eyes gleamed with chilling indifference, its aura steeped in ruthless malevolence. Such an enormous sacrificial spirit—merely gazing upon it was unnerving, giving rise to chills along one’s spine. What immense power might flow within that golden, hill-like body?

Little warrior Shi Yunfeng bore a calm expression—neither joy nor apprehension flicked even slightly across his features—as he quietly observed, prepared to partake in a climactic battle that shook heaven and earth.

The pangolin seemed to have butchered countless beings through its merciless existence; a thick torrent of gore-laced breath struck out, so violent one could momentarily witness the phantasmal vision of blood-soaked plains and mounds of corpses. The apparition was haunting. “Is it about to commence?!” Shi Yunfeng focused, tensing his spirit for this onslaught upon his mental essence.

The visions were maddeningly real—an endless repetition of tribes ruined into oblivion, entire populations executed mercilessly. Bodies strewn endlessly upon the blood-soaked terrain, the earth dyed scarlet as a sea of crimson shimmered. A setting much akin to hell—the likes that ordinary men cannot endure to witness or stand.

Expression grim upon Shi Yunfeng’s tender childlike countenance, such a sacrificial spirit was surely no ordinary foe; he suspected an anomaly with the creature’s form. Within this creature perhaps, remnants of memories were etched—some force of terrifying and extraordinary origin. It radiated an aura capable of seizing the composure of the bravest.

The giant pangolin began its mighty march, mountains themselves shaking underfoot. Across the rolling earth glimmered golden rays bursting forth from its massive scale-armored body, dousing trees, shrubbery, and leaves with a luminous golden gleam. Across the mountain range fog thickened, charged deeply with deadly intent.

Then a resounding ‘Boom!’ struck the stillness—abruptly, the pangolin charged forth—an engulfing golden sea, surging in immense tides that surged through earth and tree. As the initial waves roiled past, the ancient trees snapped apart, scattering into the skies together with rocks and stone, the force of impact akin to monstrous tempests bashing against cliffs. Amid the cataclysm—mountains quivered, boulders launched forth, and ancient trees exploded into splinters from the pressure of raw golden force.

Far beyond stood marauders trembling, gripped suddenly by terror as the heavens quaked with this unearthly force. Their vicious tempers dissolved completely beneath the spectacle—the entire horde of savagery rendered helpless with fear.

One mighty arm, golden as sunlight and several paces across in width, surged toward Shi Yunfeng in devastating descent.

Earth shattered—forests powdered in his path under the crushing golden radiance exuding terrifying might.

But Shi Yunfeng made no retreat. He raised his arm; the power of tens of thousands of jin erupted forth, yet now further magnified by newfound strength after recent transcendence enhanced immeasurably by Glyphs’ hidden might. He met the force fearlessly and directly.

“Peng!”

His hand bristling in Glyphs erupted in violent contact with those colossal golden talons, instantly igniting an explosive flare that radiated violently in every direction.

Trees cracked as scattered stones burst skyward, and afar, the gang of marauding outlaws was thrown violently away, flailing like brittle blades of grass before this golden sea of force.

When tranquility returned, the only visible movement was Shi Yunfeng’s slight retreat of only a few paces—a might that was legendary itself, daring an all-out clash with an opponent seemingly impossible to match—a massive golden-armoured pangolin—and emerging undefeated with his raw might. Awe even entered the gaze of this mighty sacrificial beast—an abomination none other; its heritage tracing to the ancient, bloodline infused with that most savage draconian race—the fierce Qiulong!

Once again, it lunged—the beast’s golden tail came whipping around with unstoppable might, shattering all with effortless destruction.

Direct impact sent crashing a boulder the weight of ten thousand jin into a scattered rubble instantly with overwhelming might—the sheer brutality defying mortal bounds.

Thankfully, caution governed the child’s next decision rather than raw defiance. His body agile as drifting fire-moth he retreated elegantly with this destructive tidal force, dancing in harmony with its wild turbulence.

The titanic golden tail, sweeping aside armies’ worth of mass destruction, smashed several boulders of similar weights as well to splinters and debris—a mighty assault only now beginning to exhaust its force, leaving behind momentary stillness.

Right there—at that very pause—the child acted with timing perfect. Seizing the opportunity he flew forward with a grace like an insect taking flight, seizing at the mighty tail’s armoured plate tightly into his tiny palms before unleashing violent swing, whirling in fury as power swelled.

“What?!” the distant outlaws exclaimed with near bulging eyes as that colossal sacrifice-beast visibly staggered from its anchor upon earth beneath.

This golden beast, once the embodiment of untouchability—at last shaken to the marrow, flung by his small hands into the rocky cliff with such devastating might that an echoing impact ‘BOOM’ thunderously followed as cascading earth obscured its crash point entirely.

Yes—his maneuver was crafty, playing in harmony with its own momentous strength. Yet, the force was terrifyingly real.

One might find disbelief in realizing—that such ungodly prowess belonged not too much in some legend… but an infant child mere years within a tiny village deep within the wild?

“Descendant of the Ancient Terrible Beasts?”

In epochs ancient, even the dragon kin ‘Yazi’, the gluttonous ‘Taotie’—beings who could contend against gods themselves, perhaps bore progeny equally fearsome. Yet—amidst the lawless borderlands, how could a miniscule village breed forth such unearthly potential?

The leader of the marauder hoard, beheld it with horror and fear creeping onto his expression.

Massiveness of several thousand catties—several ten thousand now—boulders soared from collapse, yet golden scales shimmering defiant against all attacks, that sacred beast rose unscratched—a hardened shell refusing destruction against the onslaught delivered.

It was a sacrificial spirit—an entity of mysterious might, unrelented and mighty.

To even hope to inflict severe injury remained mere fantasy—for the present challenge still held an impassable gap within.

Roaring with fury anew—the golden-armoured pangolin charged, fierce conflict resumed.

Its attacks—raw massive might and terrifying strength. Every single golden-clove swipe threatened rupture in small mountains.

Yet—with an almost surreal display Shi Yunfeng took every single one in a daring confrontation of might, his movements dancing between leaping and aerial assault, clashing directly with that golden spirit as the space between them erupted in radiant, awe-inspiring light, reeking with an aura overwhelming even the bravest of the hearts.

The power manifested could stand against a being of Ancient Qiulong lineage’s sacred gift. It beggars belief—against legends themselves.

“A child! All this strength and potential… Yet remains only but a youth!”, the marauder chieftain muttered—eyes wild with the disbelief threatening to shatter reality in pieces.

For hundreds of strikes these combatants—one young, the other ancient, locked into a titanic struggle with neither gaining ascension. The outlaws simply gawked, disbelief rendered their entire minds empty. Could a mere brat slay sacrificial monsters so? If one hadn’t stood and saw it himself—belief would be impossible.

Suddenly, the beast reared upright upon massive hind-legs. Radiating golden glow and divine presence manifold now as its limbs adapted like humanoid limbs—arms dexterous in movement while those lower half bore humanoid grace in swift and agile movement.

“Fwoosh!”

A single massive claw swung, Shi Yunfeng barely escaping the death arc, yet immediately the beast’s mighty leg swept forth—a perfect representation of martial arts mastery, swift and mercilessly devastating.

Caught midair within his evade phase, there seemed no escape now—both palms flew up, attempting to guard his person from that deadly blow’s brunt, the shock forced retreat and bodily spinning backward mid-flight.

Even as it seemed done, the sacred sacrificial beast twirled like a whip-snapping Qiulong—its long extended golden tail came around, splitting high heaven itself in one decisive stroke, aiming straight toward him.

The impact found purchase.

Though arms flailed into cross position, he could not withstand entirely—the strike cracked straight across and launched his frame flying through sky until it struck upon the distant cliff’s edge. There he crashed forming a silhouette-sized hole, a tremored explosion in stone cliff.

Rocks tumbled and crumbled outward amidst a spectacle of raw damage.

Yet amidst this battered arrival, Shi Yunfeng coughed out crimson but warded away the debris with fierce motion that shattered nearby rock face.

From the crater he sprang anew with renewed wariness burning ever brighter within determined eyes.

This mighty golden-armoured body—though enormous—blessed speed not seen before—a being of terrifying agility and reflexes defying physical logic.

It spun rapidly in midair, bursting into an instant bound aimed directly toward where Shi Yunfeng hovered mid-recover, its presence like an avalanche itself.

Truly this beast—a titan among terrors!

This time Shi Yunfeng felt true shock—it had underestimated this sacred opponent’s terrifying maneuver.

With Glyphs shimmering upon body surface—it bolted quickly skyward with incredible propulsion from stone surface—evasion attempt completed with last possible instant timing.

Golden scales flashed past the air, the beast’s charge slammed home with thunderous fury against the mountains’ surface before instantly rotating sideways in a devastatingly calculated pivot intended to squeeze its target beneath its massive body and sheer mountainous weight behind.

Blitz-like and faster than blazing lightning—it moved like thunder itself as each sudden attack manifested near instantaneous and overwhelming fury and pressure.

Little Shi Yunfeng, his skin adorned in glyph energy patterns from all-over, moved fast along that cliffside, gliding with the quick speed of a wall dragon climbing.

Within heartbeats his form scaled skyward dozens of meters into air—just in time hearing the titanic crash of the golden monster as it made ground contact against the cliff.

Yet instead of victory within its blow—the massive creature caused a quaking tremor shaking the entire mountain as wide crevices and deep fractures began forming.

Shi Yunfeng’s actions remained resolute and decisive. He plunged forward swiftly, a diving dive from above resembling an aerial sovereign bird.

Descending swiftly with incredible precision, he struck head-down with a powerful crushing stomp directly onto the monster’s massive skull with such overwhelming force—the sound impact resounded across terrain like rolling drums booming outward.

Golden armor was cracked—streams of sacrificial blood gushed high into air like a spring fountain, a clear mark indicating Shi Yunfeng’s terrifying physical capability.

Still—need one remind—the pangolin’s resilience was monstrous, its body thickly armoured and reinforced against all.

Any ordinary adversary hit by the devastating strike upon their skull could never survive, yet this beast? The damage suffered, trivial. It shook heavily, golden glyphs exploding from within its form in counter-radiance and sent Shi Yunfeng hurtling through air once again.

“Agh! Strength like this?!”

Shi Yunfeng expressed stunned disbelief.

This sacred beast’s terror far exceeded his expectations—it proved to be even more daunting than imagined.

Glancing at his opponent again amidst swirling glyph radiations bursting between two adversaries—the child had already suffered multiple severe injuries in the fight’s latter moments.

His back burned in agonizing throb where massive claw scored past, so brutally aimed his spinal column might almost have met its snapping demise, leaving crimson rivulets trailing heavily, coughing up huge bursts from lungs.

The creature—an incarnation of terror.

Difficult to contend, truly.

Shi suspected his monstrous foe bore serious underlying defects. Were there any otherwise—escape would’ve been his sole option left.

Such a golden-scaled being—surely possessed roots within a non-insignificant lineage.

If not for such, how could the beast exude the presence that defied natural boundaries and hold a sacred bloodline of exalted purity?

“It must bear some hidden affliction; otherwise I’d be no match. I’d rather flee right now.”

This thought emerged in Shi Yunfeng’s quiet murmuring contemplative tone.

True, his attacks pierced through—damaged several scale armors, yet fundamental harm evaded infliction.

His physique proved even far superior of the pangolin species famed as champions of sheer muscle. Yet his strikes—although mighty—found itself merely inflicting cosmetic scale damage upon hardened sacred scales.

Then—suddenly—a resonant ‘buzz’, a fearful pulse rippled outward while a sky blanketing golden radiance transformed into countless deadly light projectiles. Horrific oppressive essence permeated every breath of air—a terrifying atmosphere.

Shi was instantly covered in goosebumps upon his skin—sweatted chilled despite himself while spine tingled with cold alarm.

These were NOT raindrops. These shimmering fragments raining golden brilliance from the sky were golden scales expelled en masse from the mighty beast, launched with overwhelming and annihilating fury meant solely for annihilation.

“A sacred artifact!” Shi cried, alarm etched.

All across the golden scaled body—each scale bore latent divinity. These scales now shed all, transformed into a dazzling, death-filled golden rainstorm. Their brilliance and beauty were mesmerizing—yet deadly power was incomparably horrifying, destined to evolve into raging and annihilating golden turbulence.

Shi evaded swiftly with all the velocity he managed under dire situation, while those divine artifacts began asserting raw devastation. Amidst clear view, golden rain impacted cliffside’s rocky expanse and terrain, resulting in massive impact craters and tunnels drilled straight through stone—each strike producing yet more light-dappled holes piercing clear through ancient geological layers.

No human could hope to withstand this onslaught unaided, and for a being still flesh and blood—Shi Yun was not exempt.

Dense volleys closed every escape path surrounding the area—a hailstorm trap sprung too suddenly, the golden rain now locked upon him!

“Open!”

He let rip a mighty shout while extending both arms that began emitting brilliant lights. Two silver crescent-shaped moons manifested from within him followed swiftly by fusion, forming a powerful silver grinding disc, held forward shielding his body from the onslaught!

Swirling in motion and charged with overwhelming absorption power, it drew golden scales toward itself—intending to destroy everything coming close with relentless grind.

Still—it would prove a futile contest.

These were artifacts with ancient power—resistant and unyielding.

Though partially obstructed and redirected—several remained free. Streaming past defense formation like deadly bees—the death light rained forth.

“Puku! Puku!”

Multiple of these golden scales impacted him before he could dodge fully—three scales penetrated through with clean, horrifying direct hits—an act that tore through his body and carved three transparent gaping gashes, blood flowing unceasingly!
