Chapter 698: The Great Escape

“Still not coming out?” In the sky above the Bloody Plains, the Heavenly Deity stood alone, gazing down. As she spoke, her aura shifted entirely, pressing down like a colossal mountain upon the hearts of those below.

“Esteemed Senior, this has nothing to do with us!” someone cried in terror, fearing she would unleash indiscriminate slaughter.

“Moo…”

A deep, resonant bellow of a savage bull echoed through the air, accompanied by surging black waves. The sound waves shook the plains like heavenly thunder, reverberating across the land.

The black bull’s head on the Heavenly Deity’s left shoulder opened its eyes and roared, unleashing terrifying black ripples that spread outward, shaking the void itself!

“Ah—!”

Screams erupted. Below, thousands stood on the plains, but in that instant, many exploded into pieces under the bull’s roar, their blood mist rising into the air.

The sight was horrifying. Black ripples expanded, sound waves shaking the heavens. In the blink of an eye, over three thousand people were torn apart, meeting gruesome deaths.

Some survived, but blood streamed from their seven orifices as they struggled to resist. Many were deities, yet even they could not withstand it.

It was like a scene from hell. Even beings who had ignited their divine flames were insignificant—their divine auras dimmed, extinguished, before their bodies and spirits shattered.

Shi Hao had been about to don his tattered armor, activate the divine ability to shrink the earth to an inch, and unleash the Heavenly River’s curse from his alchemy furnace when he noticed protective runes rising around him.

Several powerful figures held secret treasures, shielding the area. Yun Xi even pulled him into the center of the runic barrier.

“Xi’er, why did you bring him in?” an elder frowned. Bringing an outsider into their protection risked complications.

“He once saved me,” Yun Xi said, ensuring Shi Hao stayed within the runic light and did not step beyond the treasure’s protection.

The elders said nothing. In their eyes, that hardly counted as a rescue. But they had no time to argue, their expressions grave as they looked skyward.

“Heh… So there really are escapees on this path. It seems I came at the right time!” The Heavenly Deity’s voice was icy, filled with killing intent.

Earlier, she had been uncertain—now, she had confirmation.

“Esteemed Senior, slaughtering the innocent like this—do you not fear violating the harmony of heaven?” an elder from the Heavenly Clan spoke up.

“If you had stepped forward earlier, none of this would have happened,” the three-headed Heavenly Deity said coldly. At her level, she acted as she pleased, unbothered by consequences.

Her gaze fixed on Yun Xi, and she smiled faintly, chillingly. “The Stone of Destiny is within you, fused with your body. But it can still be extracted.”

The crowd paled. This Heavenly Deity was ruthless, seeking to steal destiny and ruin foundations.

The Heavenly Clan would never tolerate this. The path from mortal to celestial was arduous, and now that one of their own was on the verge of ascension, they would not allow an outsider to interfere.

“This time, your Heavenly Clan has reaped quite the harvest. In the ancient past, you obtained six Stones of Destiny, elevating six to the pinnacle of life. Now, you’ve acquired four more—equally astonishing. But the outcome will be different. You won’t be given time to grow. The Heavenly Imperial Clan shall not rise again!”

“Senior, slaughtering the young like this—do you not fear retribution? One of our ancient ancestors still lives!” an elder roared.

“Are you threatening me? Claiming one of the six ancient ascended celestials still exists in this era? Don’t bluff me… haha!” The woman laughed before her expression turned frigid. “I’ve received word—he cannot appear. He no longer holds sway over the world.”

“Our ancestor will awaken!” an elderly woman shouted.

Shi Hao’s heart trembled. One of the six legendary founders of the Heavenly Imperial Clan had survived to this era—but it seemed something had gone wrong.

“The Stone of Destiny can only fuse with youthful bodies. If these four young geniuses are not eliminated soon, they will become four invincible celestials in the future. That cannot be allowed!” The female Heavenly Deity’s voice was icy. “The other three groups may be hard to deal with, but yours… will be wiped out effortlessly.”

As she spoke, she raised her hand and pressed down slowly. Her jade-white palm radiated divine light, causing the earth to crack and boulders to shatter.

“Ah—!” The remaining hundreds of people saw their divine flames extinguished, their bodies torn apart, meeting instant death.

The sight was terrifying. With a single, calm motion of her hand, she had caused the earth to collapse and annihilated countless deities.

The Heavenly Clan’s protective treasures cracked under the strain. Their experts were no match—they were not yet Heavenly Deities.

“Ancestral Master, where are you? Show yourself!” the elders cried.

“Boom!”

From the distance, a short figure charged forth, wielding a massive copper hammer. He swung it toward the Heavenly Deity in the sky.

“You’re at the end of your lifespan, yet you dare fight me? You’ll be worn to death,” the three-headed Heavenly Deity sneered. The elephant head on her right shoulder trumpeted, its silver trunk lashing out like a blade, clashing against the hammer with a deafening clang.

“Die!” the Heavenly Clan’s elder roared. Though small and withered, his divine power was overwhelming. He swung his hammer, shattering the void with thunderous force.

In the distance, entire mountains were uprooted like straw, flung into the sky by the shockwaves.

“Kill!”

The three-headed Heavenly Deity counterattacked, her arms glowing with sacred radiance as she sought to crush her opponent.

“Go, now!” the hammer-wielding elder shouted, holding her off.

“Useless. Unless the other three groups break through, all four paths may be annihilated—yours is already finished,” the female Heavenly Deity said coldly.

“Indeed, this group can be eliminated,” a merciless voice declared. The silver-robed Heavenly Deity reappeared, holding a gleaming spear.

Silver light radiated from him, his aura terrifying, his divine might shaking the world.

“Even in decline, the Heavenly Clan remains an eternal lineage. Not just anyone can challenge us,” a purple-haired man appeared in the distance.

“Interesting. Two Heavenly Deities for this group—but still not enough. You will die!” the silver-robed Heavenly Deity roared, charging forward.

“Boom!”

The sky was pierced as he thrust his spear toward the purple-haired Heavenly Deity.

A cataclysmic battle erupted—two pairs of Heavenly Deities clashed in mortal combat.

“Go!” the Heavenly Clan’s elders urged, sensing danger. Dark figures approached from afar—a horde of powerful enemies.

They couldn’t interfere in the Heavenly Deity battle, but they could slaughter those below.

“Hum!”

The hammer-wielding elder struck out, annihilating a group of shadows with a single palm. Then, with a grab, he hurled Yun Xi and the others far away.

This was a desperate escape!

Shi Hao sighed inwardly. He had been dragged into this mess, unable to leave alone—he had heard secrets he shouldn’t have.

The elders guarding Yun Xi eyed him with hostility, clearly considering silencing him, but Yun Xi intervened.

“We must survive and return!” an elder said, glancing back at the battle with anxiety. He didn’t know if their two Heavenly Deities could win.

Yun Xi, fused with the Stone of Destiny, had to be brought back—or all their efforts would be in vain.

“What of the other three groups?” They worried for the other three geniuses carrying Stones of Destiny.

“Boom!”

Behind them, the heavens trembled. Light blazed as the four Heavenly Deities fought fiercely—one even ignited himself, preparing to self-destruct.

“Whether the Heavenly Clan rises again to imperial glory hinges on this moment. If all four youths return, who would dare oppose us?” an elder growled.

“Elder, rest assured. Our clan will reclaim its former glory,” Yun Xi said.

But reality was cruel. Soon, a roar echoed—a Heavenly Deity had self-destructed, staining the sky with blood.

The battle ended. One self-destruction had wounded both enemies and allies, leaving survivors severely injured.

“The surviving Heavenly Deities are gravely wounded. They’ll retreat to heal—they won’t pursue us soon,” an elder beside Yun Xi said.

“Pfft!”

Blood sprayed as an elder’s arm was nearly severed. Above, a flock of fierce birds descended—each of a different species, yet all formidable.

“Run!”

This was a relentless hunt. Shi Hao cursed his luck—he had been dragged into this against his will.

“Elder, let him go. Leave him somewhere—don’t let him follow us,” Yun Xi said. Keeping him with them now would only endanger him.

Two days later, the protectors fell one by one, slain in the chase.

Yun Xi was wounded, half her body drenched in blood after narrowly avoiding a lethal strike from a bird’s light blade.

Shi Hao, now free, remained unharmed.

He sighed. This was sheer misfortune—caught in a conflict not his own. Yet he couldn’t just watch Yun Xi die.

“Do you know the Bloody Plains well?” he asked softly, carrying her as he sped across the land with his divine movement technique.

“If there’s no other way, we must enter the blood-soaked battlefields—where yin energy roils and ghosts roam,” Yun Xi murmured, grief-stricken. All her protectors were dead.

She didn’t know if the other three geniuses had escaped. The Stone of Destiny was precious—but it had brought calamity.

For days, they fled for their lives, fearing pursuit—especially from a Heavenly Deity, which would mean certain death.

In the end, they had no choice. Shi Hao carried Yun Xi into the forbidden lands, vanishing into the rolling yin mist, cutting off all traces of their presence.
