Chapter 718: To Kill?

Boom! A thunderous explosion reverberated through the sky. A sea of three-colored flames and dense dark green fighting spirit intertwined in the air, surging like tidal waves towards all directions. The terrifying fiery waves swept in every direction, even affecting the chaotic battlefield in the distant sky. Those who reacted quickly managed to escape, while the slightly slower ones were directly hit by the fiery waves. Their chests were struck as if by a heavy hammer, spewing scarlet blood mixed with scorching heat. Soon, under the blazing heat, their bodies wilted rapidly.

The sunlight that once illuminated the sky gradually dimmed as the four-colored fire waves, like layers of dark clouds, covered the sky above the Yunlan Mountain. Even the sun’s rays could not penetrate this thick layer of fire clouds.

With the fiery wave carrying horrifying energy sweeping across the sky, all but a select few of the strong cultivators fled in panic, fearing the dire consequences of being engulfed by the fiery waves.

Gurgle!

Fiery red clouds swirled in the sky, reflecting dark red light onto the dumbfounded faces below. After a moment, the sound of gulping saliva filled the air as some people nervously wiped the cold sweat from their foreheads. In the face of such terrifying energy, comparable to the forces of nature, even at the rank of a Dou Wang, they felt insignificantly weak. This power was far beyond what they could possibly contend with!

High atop a towering tree, Hai Bodong and the others descended from the sky, each looking somewhat disheveled. Caught off guard by the sudden onslaught of powerful energy, they were fortunate enough to have robust strength that allowed them to escape without serious injuries. “Everyone okay?” They exchanged glances and asked one another. Hai Bodong let out a wry smile, scanning his companions. His brows furrowed slightly; while the previous battle had taken a toll on the Yunlan Sect, they had also lost three Dou Wangs. The ferocity of the conflict exceeded everyone’s expectations.

As they counted the losses, Yin Bone Lao, Su Mei, and Tie Wu had pale faces. The unfortunate casualties among the Dou Wangs were mostly their subordinates. “Damn Yunlan Sect!” the three spat venomously. Losing a few Dou Wangs was deeply painful.

“Any news about Xiao Yan?” Lin Yan’s face was ashen, but his eyes blazed with unusual enthusiasm. It seemed that despite the fierce battle, it suited his taste. Life, in his view, should be filled with such excitement—trivial skirmishes in the academy could never satisfy his combat-loving heart. Hearing this, Lin Xiuya and Liu Qian, who stood beside him, shook their heads. Though they were also injured, their wounds were not severe. “No idea… but this guy has hidden much of his strength. Even though I already thought highly of him, I didn’t expect him to match a Battle Sect. After all, he’s only at the peak of Dou Wang. If this gets back to the Inner Academy, even Elder Su Qian would be extremely surprised.” There was a tinge of helplessness in Lin Xiuya and Liu Qian’s voices—it seemed that catching up to Xiao Yan had become infinitely more difficult.

“He’s in that fiery wave, but whether he’s alive or dead, I don’t know. The techniques he used couldn’t even save him,” Zi Yan said, biting her lip. Despite her words, her face bore a hint of worry. Lin Yan and the others looked up at the thick, tri-colored clouds, their brows furrowed, feeling uneasy. The opponent he faced was a genuine Battle Sect…

As Hai Bodong and the others regrouped, the elders of the Yunlan Sect appeared on the stage in the square. Their haggard appearances, coupled with the loss of nearly a quarter of their numbers, made their faces even more grim. Yun Yun, observing the elders, felt a weight sink in her heart when she realized the severity of the sect’s losses. Furthermore, within the fiery clouds, the fate of Yun Shan was unknown. Everyone knew the strength of a Battle Sect, and they could sense the terrifying energy contained in the three-colored fire lotus Xiao Yan had unleashed. Even with their knowledge of Yun Shan’s strength, unease still gnawed at their hearts.

The elders, with anxious and grave expressions, looked up at the sky. A moment later, they turned to Yun Yun, instinctively seeing her as the figurehead in Yun Shan’s absence. Despite her demotion from Sect Leader, Yun Yun’s long tenure had cemented her authority, making her a natural second-in-command. Now, with Yun Shan’s fate uncertain, the elders looked to her for guidance. Yun Yun, however, was preoccupied, fully aware that the Yunlan Sect was facing an extremely perilous situation.

Bang! As everyone’s gaze fixated on the thick, fiery clouds in the sky, a sudden disturbance emerged from one cloud. Two figures, one after the other, shot out.

The sudden appearance of the two figures immediately drew everyone’s attention. However, upon closer look, it wasn’t Xiao Yan or Yun Shan, but the so-called Wuzhe and the Pharmacist Elder. As they emerged from the fiery cloud, both were significantly lower in altitude, finally stabilizing. Clearly, they were in bad shape. The strange black mist surrounding Wuzhe dissipated, leaving him gasping heavily. Covered in a large, black cloak, his face, obscured by darkness, revealed a pair of dark red eyes.

Pharmacist Elder, whose form was already somewhat incorporeal, now appeared even thinner and older. Clearly, both had undergone a fierce and disastrous battle, ending in mutual injury.

“Ha ha, old man, I didn’t expect you to be so tenacious without a body. Truly worthy of the title of Medicine Ancestor.”

The black robe trembled, and Wuzhe laughed, his voice heavy with breath. “It’s not easy to take my soul,” the Pharmacist Elder retorted coldly. The pair of dark red eyes beneath the black robe gleamed brighter, and a low, ominous voice rang out, “Is that so? Do you really think I’m so easy to handle? Even if I must pay a steep price, I will bring you back to the Soul Hall. Ha ha, the Lord is very interested in your soul.”

Pharmacist Elder’s eyes narrowed, a sense of unease rising in his heart. Little did he know the true capabilities of the monsters in the Soul Hall.

As the Pharmacist Elder mulled over his situation, the thick, fiery clouds above suddenly roiled, forming a massive vortex. The increasing speed of the vortex caused the surrounding flames to swirl like a tide.

When the vortex reached a certain speed, two soft thuds sounded, and two figures were violently expelled like refuse. The appearance of these figures immediately drew the crowd’s attention. Relief washed over everyone; clearly, these were the main characters of the battle, Xiao Yan and Yun Shan. As the two figures fell towards the ground, it seemed both were unconscious from the intense energy explosion.

Just as everyone watched in shock, the figure behind began to tremble, and tightly closed eyes opened slowly in the howling wind. “He’s awake? Who is it?” The sudden awakening and control over the falling figure immediately caught the attention of the crowd. A murmur of surprise rose from the square.

Ignoring the exclamations, the figure paused, then, with a shake of his shoulders, a pair of emerald green fire wings emerged from his back. “Xiao Yan! It’s Xiao Yan!” The familiar fire wings instantly revealed his identity, and a series of shocked and relieved shouts echoed through the square.

As the emerald green fire wings appeared, Xiao Yan dived towards Yun Shan, drawing on the last of his fighting spirit to envelop his fist, slamming it down. He knew that even though the fusion of three unique flames into the Buddha’s Wrath Fire Lotus was immensely powerful, it was still challenging to kill a Battle Sect with a single strike. Thus, he had to seize the moment of Yun Shan’s weakness and deliver a fatal blow. Otherwise, if Yun Shan regained his strength, the roles would be reversed, and Xiao Yan would be the one facing death.

Xiao Yan’s action once again sent ripples of amazement through the crowd. Anyone could see that Yun Shan was at his most vulnerable. A critical blow now would either cripple or kill him.

Under the astonished and joyful gazes, Xiao Yan approached Yun Shan. Although Yun Shan could now see and was conscious, a sense of fear welled up in his heart as he saw the murderous grin on Xiao Yan’s face. Xiao Yan, with a crazed expression, laughed and unleashed his remaining fighting spirit, aiming for Yun Shan’s heart. Just as his fist was about to strike, a woman’s scream echoed from the square below. “Xiao Yan, don’t!” Recognizing the voice, Xiao Yan’s fist trembled. His gaze shifted downward, meeting Yun Yun’s pleading, pale face.
