Chapter 213: A Race Against Time

In the instant the black-robed figure shattered the energy form of Queen Medusa, Yue Mei and Mo Bas simultaneously burst into fury. The latter turned abruptly, bellowing at the countless guards on the walls below, “Kill these humans!” Hearing Mo Bas’s order, an enormous roar of rage rose from the walls. Innumerable snake-people tightened their grip on their venomous spears, took two hasty steps back, and then charged forward, releasing a dense rain of venomous spears towards the black-robed figure and Gu He, among others. The sharp whistling of the wind was so intense it made one’s ears ache.

The black-robed figure gazed indifferently at the massive rain of venomous spears in the sky. He did not move a single step. With a light wave of his sleeve, a colossal green tornado suddenly appeared before him, spinning at high speed, drawing in the yellow sand from the ground.

As the tornado grew larger, the black-robed figure swatted it away as if shooing mosquitoes. The green tornado surged out, dispersing the rain of venomous spears with its powerful suction, and any spears that managed to pierce through the storm were no longer a threat to Gu He and the others.

Beneath the black robe, the eyes stared at the endless rain of venomous spears coming from the walls. Letting the tornado block them, he turned slightly, looking at Gu He and the others. “Go in. Queen Medusa is likely at a critical moment. At this time, she is extremely vulnerable. If you want to obtain the Heavenly Fire, this is your only chance.”

Gu He’s brow furrowed slightly. After a brief moment of thought, he nodded gravely. He was not the type to be indecisive. When action was needed, he would not let morality or trivial issues cost him the fleeting opportunity.

“Lao Shi, Feng Li, go. Stop Mo Bas and the others. I’ll enter the city to find the Heavenly Fire!”

With a sudden wave of his hand, Gu He spoke sternly.

“Ha ha, if you say so, let’s have a grand battle! Anyway, you’re a rich guy. The more injured you get, the more reward we’ll receive!” Yan Shi grinned and laughed heartily.

Hearing this, Gu He shook his head with a mix of laughter and exasperation. His body quivered slightly as huge wings of energy slowly emerged from his back. Tapping his feet against the air, he sped towards the city.

“Halt!” Seeing Gu He’s actions, Yue Mei and Mo Bas immediately rushed over, their faces grim, blocking his path.

“Ha ha, your opponents are us!” A fierce gust of wind struck at Yue Mei and the two, while Lao Shi and Feng Li quickly intercepted them with grins.

“Medusa Snake Guards, stop him!” As Gu He attempted to rush into the city again, Yue Mei’s face turned cold. Turning around, she barked at the snake guards on the wall.

“Yes!” Responding in unison, a dozen shadows swiftly leaped from the height of the wall, blocking Gu He’s path.

“Kill him!” The dozen snake-people, wearing peculiar clothing, glared at Gu He with the coldness of venomous snakes. With a cold shout, they all moved in unison, their energies fusing together mid-air, increasing their power exponentially.

Observing the attack of the dozen snake-people, Gu He quickly assessed their strength: two Spirit Warriors and ten Great Masters. Even with their strange combo attacks, they were still far from being a match for him.

With a clench of his hand, a pale blue flame enveloped Gu He’s body. His wings flapped slightly, and he swiftly formed a hand seal, shouting, “Blue Flame Surge!”

As the shout echoed, a pale blue flame suddenly appeared before Gu He, shooting towards the dozen snake-people. The combined force of the snake-people’s attacks was nullified by the blue flame. With another flap of his wings, Gu He dashed through the snake-people’s defenses, striking them with hidden energy, forcing them to retreat, coughing up blood.

Just as Gu He was about to rush into the city, a fierce energy shot up from below, causing him to hastily retreat. Barely dodging a flying spear, he heard a woman’s voice.

“Captain of the Medusa Snake Guard, Flower Snakeling!”

A graceful figure flashed into the air, the woman coldly declaring her presence.

“Great Master… sigh, the snake-people indeed have many strong ones,” Gu He mused, sensing her power.

The woman did not seem interested in conversation, pulling out her sharp spear and swinging her tail, charging at Gu He with immense force. Just as Gu He prepared to engage, the black-robed figure suddenly appeared, saying, “Leave her to me. You go find the Heavenly Fire. We don’t have much time. Once Queen Medusa evolves, our only option will be to run as far as we can.”

“Okay.” Seeing the black-robed figure, Gu He nodded and, under Flower Snakeling’s angry gaze, rushed into the city.

Amidst the chaos on the walls, a shadow quietly slipped in, dealing with a few stray snake-people along the way before rushing into the vast city. With a slight tremor, Zi Yan’s wings fluttered, and Xiao Yan flew low, urgently asking, “Teacher, what now? Have you sensed the Heavenly Fire’s location?”

“Queen Medusa is cunning. She somehow split the Heavenly Fire’s aura into four parts, each located at the four corners of the city. If we search one by one, it will take too long.”

“Ah, a cunning woman… What should we do now?” Xiao Yan frowned and asked with a bitter smile.

“Don’t worry. Although her methods are clever, I’ve been dealing with Heavenly Fire for years. I can still discern the subtle differences.”

Which direction?” Xiao Yan breathed a heavy sigh of relief and asked.

“East!” came the quick reply.

“Ha ha, Gu He went the wrong way.” Xiao Yan grinned, delighting in the irony, as he had clearly seen Gu He heading north.

Dodging a few incoming spears, Xiao Yan glanced at the chaotic city, then spread his wings and flew eastward. After carefully flying for nearly ten minutes, a massive temple appeared in his view.

“Here it is. Be careful, the Heavenly Fire’s aura is getting stronger!” Teacher’s voice warned in his mind.

Nodding, Xiao Yan slowed his flight and quickly hid in the darkness, squinting at the strict defenses outside the temple.

“No time to waste. Hurry up. If Queen Medusa evolves, I won’t be able to handle her, and we’ll have to run for our lives!” Teacher’s voice was grave.

Xiao Yan nodded and, with Teacher’s help in concealing his presence, quickly snuck into a corridor, running towards the designated area. With Teacher’s powerful soul perception, he narrowly avoided the patrolling guards. After a perilous dash of nearly ten minutes, a small, clear lake appeared.

In the center of the lake was a small island, surrounded by shimmering water, with no bridge leading to it. Standing at the edge of the lake, Xiao Yan peered at the clear water, licked his lips, and lightly tapped a jade ruler from his ring, using it to glide back to the shore just as it disintegrated into nothingness.

“Be careful. The air above the lake is warded. Anything that flies will be forced down into the toxic water, which even a Great Master might struggle to survive.”

“F*ck…”

Xiao Yan cursed, clenching his fists, then sighed, “What now?”

“Only one way. I’ll wrap you in Heavenly Fire. You need to hurry to the island, or you’ll be corroded to dust.”

“Then let’s go… Time is precious!”

Teacher’s body was soon enveloped in a pale white flame. Standing at the edge of the lake, Xiao Yan gritted his teeth and, closing his eyes, jumped into the water with a splash.
