Chapter 147: Storming the Wolf’s Den

Standing on the broad back of the eagle, Xiao Yan gazed down at the rapidly receding town below. He couldn’t help but envy the magnificent blue eagle beneath his feet—such a flying mount was truly something to be coveted. Gently caressing the feathers of the blue eagle, Little Healer Immortal noticed Xiao Yan’s expression and couldn’t help but smile. “What? Envious of my little Lan? But I can’t give it to you. It has been with me for many years.”

“Although I do envy it, I wouldn’t take something that is dear to you. Besides, even if you were willing, it might not be,” Xiao Yan replied with a shake of his head. He knew that in the Dou Qi Continent, to obtain a pet capable of assisting its master in battle, one must cultivate a bond. However, magical beasts were generally wild and only a fortunate few could earn their friendship and loyalty. Little Healer Immortal’s blue eagle, a first-tier magical beast, had been rescued by her several years ago, and it was then that she earned its friendship and loyalty. If she were to give it to Xiao Yan now, it would likely fly away into the mountains immediately.

Little Healer Immortal smiled gently, stroking the blue feathers. “Though magical beasts are fierce, once they grant their loyalty, they will never betray. In this, they are far more trustworthy than humans.”

Nodding in agreement, Xiao Yan turned his gaze to the rapidly moving landscape below. “Where is the headquarters of the Wolf Head Mercenary Corps?”

“The Wolf Head Mercenary Corps is stationed in the southern part of Qingshan Town. They have almost completely occupied that area,” Little Healer Immortal explained, pointing to where the blue eagle was flying.

“You’ve been in Qingshan Town for so long; you must know the exact number and general strength of the Wolf Head Mercenary Corps, right?” Xiao Yan asked seriously.

“Yes, the Wolf Head Mercenary Corps has been developing in Qingshan Town for over a decade. They have about seventy to eighty core members, mostly ranging from two-star to five-star Fighters. The corps has three leaders: Hao Meng, who died at your hands, and Mu She and Gan Mu…”

“Gan Mu? I met him on the way here and… took care of him,” Xiao Yan said with a wave of his hand, interrupting Little Healer Immortal.

Little Healer Immortal was slightly taken aback, staring at Xiao Yan in astonishment for a moment before nodding with a smile. “It seems I underestimated your strength. Gan Mu was a nine-star Fighter. If you could kill him so easily, your strength must be at least nine-star, right?”

Xiao Yan chuckled and nodded ambiguously. “So, the Wolf Head Mercenary Corps now has only Mu She to stand against you. The others are no match for you,” Little Healer Immortal mused.

“But they do have numbers, and due to certain reasons, I’m not skilled at facing such large groups,” Xiao Yan sighed regretfully. Despite mastering several profound-tier techniques, his Dou Qi cultivation method was merely a low-level Yellow Rank. Such a method couldn’t support him in a hundred-man slaughter.

“Their mercenary members are not a major threat,” Little Healer Immortal shook her head, pulling out a small jade bottle from her chest. She poured out a brightly colored pill and handed it to Xiao Yan. “Thanks to the Seven-Colored Poison Scripture, the poisons I concoct now, while not deadly to many Fighters, can at least incapacitate those below five-star. I’ll support you from the air. If they try to surround and kill you, I’ll scatter the poison powder. This pill is an antidote. Although my poisons won’t affect someone of your strength, taking it will save some of your Dou Qi.”

Xiao Yan nodded, taking the pill and examining it curiously. To his discerning eye as a first-rank Alchemist, the pill wasn’t as smooth as a true medicinal pill. Clearly, it was a product of Little Healer Immortal’s ordinary flame fusing the herbs together. Tossing the pill in his hand, Xiao Yan swallowed it. With Pharmacist Elder as his mentor, he wasn’t afraid of any hidden toxins. “Tell me more about Mu She’s strength. His Dou Qi cultivation method and techniques, please.”

Seeing Xiao Yan swallow the pill without hesitation, a subtle softness appeared on Little Healer Immortal’s face. Even knowing her skill in poisoning, Xiao Yan still trusted her, which touched her heart. “Mu She’s strength is around that of a two-star Fighter. His cultivation method is a wind attribute technique called ‘Wind Soar Slaughter,’ which is a high-level Yellow Rank. He also masters three techniques, all high-level Yellow Rank: an offensive, a defensive, and a body movement technique.”

“High-level Yellow Rank, huh?” Xiao Yan relaxed slightly. His ‘Flame Decisive’ might be low-level Yellow Rank, but it wasn’t inferior to mid-level Yellow Rank techniques. Combined with his proficiency in several profound-tier techniques, he was confident in leveling the playing field. “How about beating him?”

“Let’s see the show,” Xiao Yan said with a smile, looking down at the town. According to Little Healer Immortal’s description, his chances of victory seemed quite good.

“Are you saying Xiao Yan did this?” In the hall, Mu She roared at a trembling mercenary, his eyes bloodshot. Before him lay the corpse of Gan Mu, killed by Xiao Yan earlier.

“Yes, Chief… Xia Yan, who we chased into the depths of the Magic Beast Mountains, has come out alive!” the mercenary stammered, fear in his eyes.

Mu She’s already dark face grew even darker, a cold ferocity flashing in his eyes. Pacing the hall, he growled, “Did he kill Gan Mu alone?”

“Xiao Yan ambushed him, but even in direct combat, Second Chief was defeated very quickly. I believe Xiao Yan’s strength is around nine-star.”

“How is that possible? It’s only been two months! How could he advance to nine-star Fighter?” Mu Li shouted, his face darkening. He had only risen from six-star to seven-star in half a year, yet this guy had reached nine-star?

“Others may not, but that guy might,” Mu She took a deep breath, waving his hand. “But what does it matter? A Fighter is no match for a Dou Shi!”

“Order a full search for Xiao Yan. This time, we can’t let him escape!” Mu She slammed his fist on the table. “I was lamenting not being able to get the treasure he found in the cave. Now, he’s returned. This time, he stays forever!”

Recalling the terrifying technique Xiao Yan had used by the abyss, Mu She shuddered, then muttered to himself, “Even if he has high-tier techniques, his own strength is too weak. And high-tier techniques… Do I lack them?”

Just as Mu She was comforting himself, a mercenary burst in, shouting, “Chief, Xiao Yan is attacking from the front gate!”

“What?” The hall erupted in shock. Mu She leaped up, grabbing the mercenary. “How many men did he bring?”

“Just him!” the mercenary replied, his face twisted in disbelief.

“One?” Mu She repeated, disbelieving. “He came alone to attack our headquarters?”

The mercenary nodded frantically.

“This brat, is he crazy? Does he think he can take on the entire Wolf Head Mercenary Corps alone?” Mu She sneered, his face dark. “Fine, let’s see what gives him such courage!”

Waving his hand, Mu She strode out, followed by a horde of mercenaries. They rushed through the hall to the front yard, where a black-clad youth stood, smiling. At his feet, a dozen Wolf Head mercenaries writhed, and the heavy gate was shattered.

“Chief Mu She, hello, long time no see,” the youth smiled, lifting his head as Mu She approached with a grim face.

“Today, you stay!” Mu She snarled, pointing at the youth. His face twisted with hatred and malice. The youth, however, merely smirked in response.
