Chapter 21: What Lies in the Heart of One’s Beginning (Part II)

Zhao Jundu sat in wait, and not long after, a personal guard of the Zhao clan led a rather thin young man to him.

Without lifting his gaze, Zhao Jundu said coolly, “You are working for Song Zining?”

The young man, who was originally rather lively, felt a deep, ocean-like pressure in front of Zhao Jundu, and did not dare to act rashly. He replied respectfully, “I have been serving the Seventh Young Master for some time now, and I have just returned from Dusklight.”

Zhao Jundu showed a slight surprise, glanced at him, and nodded, “Being able to return alive from Dusklight is no small feat. Speak, what news does he have for me?”

The young man leaned forward, lowered his voice, and whispered a name.

Zhao Jundu nodded, stood up, and said, “So that’s how it is, follow me.”

Shortly thereafter, several military vehicles sped out from the Zhao camp, splitting off in different directions as soon as they exited the gate. Several vehicles were immediately noticed upon exiting, and several figures followed them under the cover of night. However, even more eyes watched the Zhao camp from the darkness, wary of being lured into a trap.

At that moment, a streak of azure light shot up from the Zhao camp, heading north. The azure light was like a rainbow crossing the sky, moving at an incredible speed. The observers in the shadows all gasped, they had always been on guard against any secret movements by the Zhao clan, but never expected such a bold, undisguised departure from Zhao Jundu.

Although all the observers detected Zhao Jundu’s departure, no one could keep up with his speed. It was clear that by the time word spread, Zhao Jundu would have already accomplished his task.

In the blink of an eye, Zhao Jundu appeared at the northern edge of the city, close to the walls.

As the azure light dissipated, Zhao Jundu, along with the young man and two personal guards, landed and took up a position at a crossroads.

Just as they landed, over a hundred warriors rushed down the street toward them. These soldiers were all elite troops, their faces devoid of expression, exuding a deadly aura. Unlike the private armies of noble families, these soldiers mostly wore the insignia of the military, indicating they were part of the military’s direct command, though a few came from various elite units.

The hundred soldiers were led by two commanders, one of whom was a brigadier general. Such a force was quite formidable. They charged down the street, their killing intent overwhelming. However, midway through, the brigadier general suddenly halted, raising his right hand, causing the entire group to stop abruptly.

Stopping so abruptly, some of the weaker soldiers couldn’t control themselves and crashed into those in front of them, finally coming to a stop.

The brigadier general fixed his eyes on Zhao Jundu, sweat beading on his forehead, and said sternly, “We have urgent matters and must pursue hidden bloodline spies. General Jundu, please step aside.”

Zhao Jundu responded indifferently, “Coincidentally, I am also pursuing a bloodline rebel.”

The brigadier general was taken aback, then said, “You mean to say you are also hunting Qian Ye? General Jundu, this is no joke…”

Before he could finish, his face turned pale. A murderous intent flashed in Zhao Jundu’s eyes, aimed at his vital points, like a sharp blade piercing through. The brigadier general felt a chill, as if he were on the brink of death, too tense to speak.

Zhao Jundu, stroking his azure spear, said coldly, “What are you, to think I would jest with you? At least send a full general.”

The brigadier general’s face flushed red, unsure whether to argue. He knew that Zhao Jundu had indeed intended to kill him, and angering him was not wise. Amidst the chaos in the city, both the noble families and the military had suffered heavy casualties in pursuit of Qian Ye. If Zhao Jundu killed them all and pinned it on Qian Ye, there would be no way to refute it.

At that moment, Qian Ye emerged from a nearby street. He was unsurprised to see the military pursuers, but seeing Zhao Jundu made him pause.

Qian Ye immediately gripped his sword, East Peak, his eyes turning sapphire blue, and his dark golden blood aura reappeared, with invisible blood threads extending in all directions. Regardless of past connections, Zhao Jundu was unlikely to openly help Qian Ye. From the Zhao clan’s perspective, apprehending Qian Ye was the right course of action.

At this moment, Qian Ye did not want to engage Zhao Jundu. Even at his peak, he might not win, and now, after multiple battles, he was injured. Therefore, Qian Ye prepared to use void flash to escape. This would be his last void flash, and after using it, he would have to fight his way out of the city. But now, there was no other choice.

Zhao Jundu saw Qian Ye and immediately aimed his gun at him. The movement was fluid and swift, too fast for the brigadier general or Qian Ye to react, and the gun was aimed at Qian Ye’s forehead.

The azure light cut through the night, and a silent origin bullet flew from the gun. As it left the barrel, a deep, overpowering pressure filled the area, causing everyone weaker than a warrior to tremble uncontrollably.

The origin bullet passed between Qian Ye and Nighteye, missing each by only a hair’s breadth, and hit a three-story building beside the street. The force of the shot obliterated the ground floor, leaving only a few supporting pillars. The remaining power flattened the entire block!

The three-story building, without support, collapsed, burying several soldiers under the rubble.

The two commanders narrowly dodged, shocked and angry, shouting, “General Jundu, what is the meaning of this?!”

Zhao Jundu remained calm, saying, “My hand slipped.”

The brigadier general’s chest tightened, almost spitting out blood. The empire’s top genius slipping? The excuse was absurd.

A colonel hurriedly dug out several people from the rubble, but when he saw the last person, he froze.

It was a colonel, his chest crushed by a heavy bronze bell, severely injured. Clearly, he had been intimidated by Zhao Jundu’s power and couldn’t activate his origin power to defend himself.

The colonel remembered that this colonel was named Gu Liyu, cunning and deceitful, a former favorite of Li Fengshui. But now, with Li Fengshui dead, someone like Gu Liyu was expendable. The colonel decided not to pursue “accidental” injury charges against Zhao Jundu.

The brigadier general shared the same thought, glancing at Gu Liyu and ignoring him. The most important thing now was Qian Ye, and Zhao Jundu’s attitude was ambiguous. If that “slip” had been aimed at him, he would be the one lying on the ground now.

Qian Ye suddenly exclaimed, his gaze falling on Gu Liyu. He had not forgotten this enemy, and now, here they were again. It was clear that Gu Liyu was here to hunt him, and likely involved in Nighteye’s capture.

Qian Ye raised East Peak, flicked his finger on the blade, and the sword emitted a dragon-like roar. The bronze bell on Gu Liyu’s chest resonated, ringing deafeningly!

Gu Liyu screamed, spewing blood and organ fragments. His face turned pale, and he fell, clearly having had his insides shattered by the bell, beyond saving even with imperial elixirs.

The brigadier general, enraged, shouted, “Qian Ye, you dare to kill a military officer! Your crime deserves extermination of your entire family! No matter where you flee, the empire will hunt you down!”

Qian Ye sneered, “Officer? I’ve killed a full general. If you dare to pursue, I won’t mind adding a brigadier general to the list.”

The brigadier general, recalling that Li Fengshui had died at Qian Ye’s hands, felt the mission became very dangerous. Qian Ye’s technique was too mysterious, far beyond his understanding.

However, he had one hope, shouting, “General Jundu!”

Zhao Jundu, unambiguous, aimed his gun at Qian Ye again, with a growing killing intent. Qian Ye frowned, sensing the genuine threat. Instinctively, he sidestepped and dashed through the gap between Zhao Jundu and the military forces, heading for another street.

Azure light flashed, and more origin bullets flew at Qian Ye. However, he dodged them all with his elusive movements.

“Slip.”

“Ouch.”

“Mistake.”

Several shots missed, and Zhao Jundu seemed to grow angrier, each shot more powerful. The surrounding blocks were almost entirely destroyed, and a few stray shots nearly hit the colonel, making him cower on the ground, motionless.

When Zhao Jundu lowered his gun, the area was in ruins, and Qian Ye was long gone.

The brigadier general, his face livid, glared at Zhao Jundu, and said coldly, “General Jundu, you colluded with a traitor, letting him escape. What crime does this deserve?”

“What crime?” Zhao Jundu’s smile vanished, replaced by a cold killing intent. He suddenly lifted his gun, and an origin bullet whizzed out! The azure light flashed, and the brigadier general’s torso almost disappeared!

“You, you actually…” The brigadier general, pointing at Zhao Jundu, was full of shock. Even in his last moments, he never expected Zhao Jundu to truly pull the trigger.

The colonel, pale and sweating, stammered, “General Jundu, this… this…”

Zhao Jundu said coldly, “This man harbored ill intentions, framing his superiors, and has been executed on the spot. Hmph, I merely slipped once, and I will not tolerate slander from treacherous people!”

The colonel, not daring to speak, could only mutter inwardly, “That shot didn’t slip at all.”

Zhao Jundu snorted, “If I don’t kill a few, some people might start thinking the military belongs to them, allowing them to act as they please!”
