Chapter 23: The Alluring Lure

Qian Ye nodded, “That’s enough. I need the distribution of the dark race cities and strongholds around us, as well as all significant events involving the dark races that have occurred within a year.”

“More professional than I imagined,” Colonel Ji said sincerely.

After sending off Ji Yuanjia, another major walked in, placing a suitcase on the table and said, “These are the supplies assigned to you, please check them!”

After Qian Ye signed, he opened the case and saw a neat row of ten potions, labeled with “Type IV Origin Power Activation.” These were actually cultivation potions for fourth-level warriors!

The emblem in the corner of the inner lid belonged to the Empire’s Dawn Biotech, a giant in the military industry, on par with Blackrock Heavy Industries. The origin power activation potions produced by this company were always in high demand, and even the main army corps could only get limited supplies. Only elite legions like Red Scorpion could get unlimited supplies, but at the cost of military merit.

A box of these potions would consume a year’s worth of points for a rookie like Qian Ye, and that’s without factoring in other military supplies.

Qian Ye paused for a moment, then said to the major, “Please convey my gratitude to Miss QiQi.”

The major smiled, “I will relay it word for word.”

Since the etiquette teacher was arriving the next day, Qian Ye planned to use the remaining time for cultivation. Any increase in strength before the mission was valuable.

Even though everything had yet to begin, QiQi had already provided so many benefits, far exceeding Qian Ye’s expectations. Yet, he also believed that nothing came for free, and the higher the reward, the greater the danger. Though he couldn’t yet determine where the danger lay, it seemed more was involved than just battling the dark races to gain military merit. Hiring a hunter and providing such resources implied something more.

Qian Ye closed the courtyard gate, picked up the potions, and entered the cultivation room.

In the largest pavilion in the back garden, Yin QiQi stretched her long legs lazily, drowsy. Two maids were massaging her legs, while Ji Yuanjia stood nearby, reporting his conversation with Qian Ye, detailing every reaction.

“Transfer all the authority of the 131st Company to him now!” Yin QiQi remained nonchalant.

“But, we still don’t know him well, shouldn’t we observe him a bit more?” Ji Yuanjia suggested diplomatically.

Yin QiQi yawned, covering her mouth, “We don’t need to understand; Yu Yingnan understands him. He’s not high in rank, but his strength is decent, and he has a clean background, not belonging to any faction. Yu Yingnan said Qian Ye would do his best if he takes the money. Ah, and he’s quite handsome. What else do we need?”

Ji Yuanjia’s eyebrow twitched, his gaze shifting to his feet, pretending he didn’t hear the last part.

“One reinforced company isn’t much, let him play with it. Who knows, he might even surprise us!”

Ji Yuanjia, with a gentle smile and tone, tried to persuade further, “But, Miss, you only have one reinforced battalion. Giving him a third of your force…”

QiQi spoke lazily, “What use is a bunch of cannon fodder? In a while, Gu Liyu will use his connections to send a squadron of Flame Blade soldiers. Of course, they’ll change their names.”

Hearing Gu Liyu’s name, Ji Yuanjia’s smile became somewhat forced, but QiQi’s gaze wasn’t on him, and he quickly composed himself, saying sincerely, “Having a squadron of Flame Blade soldiers will be a great help.”

Fifty Flame Blade soldiers would indeed be useful, but in the competition for the inheritance of the Yin family, it wouldn’t be decisive. So, considering both public and private interests, Ji Yuanjia cautiously reminded her.

His words were subtle, but QiQi understood the underlying meaning, smiling faintly, “Don’t worry, Gu Liyu is just an intermediary. He can’t afford to hire a squadron of Flame Blade soldiers, even if he sold his entire family.”

Ji Yuanjia immediately agreed, “An ordinary noble clan isn’t much better than a poor one. It’s mainly due to your influence, Miss. Otherwise, even with money, the Flame Blades wouldn’t accept the task.”

QiQi smiled, “To outdo my siblings, who lack skill but have big ambitions, I need to think a bit and pay some price. The Flame Blades are just a preliminary preparation. You’ll see my true cards soon. For now, cooperate with Qian Ye, let him play. This pretty little thing might not just be a decoy. Besides attracting attention, I feel he might bring us some unexpected surprises.”

“I’ll arrange everything.”

QiQi waved, and Ji Yuanjia retreated.

In the cultivation room, Qian Ye injected the potion into his body, waiting for it to take effect. During these few minutes, he stopped thinking about the strange mission and pondered another crucial issue: there were too many experts around QiQi.

This young lady didn’t conceal her origin power, clearly showing she had activated seven origin power nodes, meaning her rank was genuine. Her aides were majors and colonels, likely having the corresponding strength.

Lan Auntie’s strength was beyond Qian Ye’s comprehension, indicating a difference of three or more levels, possibly an eighth-level expert. This was just the visible power; if there were hidden strengths, there might even be true warlord-level experts.

After advancing to the fourth level, the black blood in Qian Ye’s body lay dormant, fusing with his bloodline, no longer showing any external signs. Even touching mithril-like substances, unless through a bleeding wound, caused no fluctuations. But this wasn’t a long-term solution, especially when injured, the aura of blood power would be hard to conceal.

When Qian Ye agreed to the mission, he hadn’t known QiQi’s influence. But now, he couldn’t back out, given the prepaid high-value supplies and the Second Master’s hint that two families’ fates, including Yu Yingnan’s, were in QiQi’s hands.

He could only take it step by step. For example, as a hunter and sniper, he could request a solitary combat position.

The potion took effect, and Qian Ye dismissed extraneous thoughts, sensing the conversion of the potion’s power into origin power.

Ten Type IV potions were a standard dose, enough to take an average practitioner from early to peak fourth level, ready to activate the fifth node. For Qian Ye, however, ten potions only replenished half of his origin power, still far from the fifth barrier.

The rich origin power made his blood qi restless, ordinary blood qi surging from his heart, capturing and strengthening the origin power. As the golden blood qi slept, the ordinary blood qi not only recovered to seven strands but grew thicker. Qian Ye also sensed an unusual pulse in his heart, signaling the potential generation of new blood qi.

Suddenly, as if attracted by the abundant ordinary blood qi, the golden cocoon trembled, something inside battering the walls, about to break free.

In moments, the golden cocoon’s surface was covered in cracks, ready to burst.

The ordinary blood qi, like frightened sheep, abandoned the origin power, fleeing back into the heart. The purple blood qi, which had just caught a strand of ordinary blood qi, suddenly twisted, as if sensing the changes in the golden cocoon, released its prey, and swiftly retreated into the vampiric constitution rune, coiling up, ready for battle.

The golden cocoon finally broke, a tiny thread of golden blood qi emerging, swimming around. It seemed unchanged, but at high speed, a dark golden line appeared.

The golden blood qi circled the vampiric constitution rune several times, finding no opportunity, then returned to its own rune, consuming the cocoon fragments.

After finishing, it dashed into the heart, dragging out a strand of ordinary blood qi, devouring it. Soon, one strand vanished, not enough to satiate it. The golden blood qi continued, devouring more, leaving only two strands of ordinary blood qi. Still unsatisfied, it dragged out the sixth strand, swallowing it.

With previous experiences, Qian Ye realized this was dangerous. If it continued, wouldn’t all the ordinary blood qi disappear?

If the balance of the three blood qi types was disrupted, the consequences were unknown! Even without consequences, the regeneration of ordinary blood qi would take time, during which unprotected organs would struggle to withstand more than thirty rounds of the Soldier Strike Decree.

“Stop!” Seeing the golden blood qi lunge towards the heart again, Qian Ye panicked, issuing a mental command and building a barrier of dawn origin power, emitting a faint green light, around his heart.

The golden blood qi lightly collided with the barrier, smashing a large hole, rushing towards the heart. However, it seemed to sense Qian Ye’s will, halfway into the heart, reluctantly emerged, sparing the last remaining strand of ordinary blood qi.

Qian Ye sighed in relief, feeling a faint joy. For the first time, he had successfully conveyed his will to the blood qi, receiving limited obedience. Could this mean he might one day control the blood power, unaffected by darkness?

The golden blood qi, not idle, circled the purple blood qi, drooling. The purple blood qi, entrenched in the rune, remained defensive, its raised tip like a fierce snake, expressing readiness. The golden blood qi, frustrated, returned to the Night Vision rune, coiling up.

It began emitting specks of golden light, merging into the rune, causing the lines to overlap and expand, forming a more complex pattern. Eventually, a small, independent rune detached, floating beside the Night Vision rune. The two runes, separate yet connected, resembled an annex to a main building.

The new rune signified a new ability, Bloodline Concealment. It hid the blood power, pushing the reflected origin power sequence into the gray area between dawn and eternal night.

In short, when activated, the user’s origin power attribute couldn’t be sensed by conventional means. For Qian Ye, his Soldier Strike Decree used dawn origin power. Activating this ability would completely mask the blood power, even if wounded in battle.

But, Qian Ye suddenly thought of Yuetong.
