Chapter 14: The Little Maiden

The demonspawn, with his hands nestled in sleeves adorned with abundant lace, said to the little girl beside him, “Your idea was good. By holding a blood feast, you actually managed to catch a fish. Although it’s not particularly plump, it will do well as an appetizer for wine tasting. After this battle, I will reward you, with a reward that is sufficient.”

The little girl pressed her pink lips together, her large, shiny eyes sweeping over the hunters and dark warriors standing in confrontation, then she nodded vigorously.

A blood knight addressed the demonspawn with utmost respect, “Lord Mesfield, what should we do now?”

The young demonspawn’s face darkened, “What to do? Naturally, slaughter them all! But let me remind you, this fight is far from as easy as you might imagine. Even if someone manages to escape, I will not intervene. As a member of the ancient and noble Mesfield family, these small fry who are not even ranked warriors are not worth my personal effort!”

Yu Rennyi’s expression turned solemn as he slowly removed his short cloak and threw it on the ground, then took off the backpack of wilderness gear from his back, saying, “Don’t hold back, use your full strength. If you have no trump cards, try to find an opportunity for mutual annihilation. Trust me, dying here is far more fortunate than falling into their hands alive!”

The dark warriors began to close in, and Yu Rennyi slightly bent his body before breaking into a run, charging straight at one of the blood knights. The blood knight, naturally, would not refuse a challenge from a low-level human and also began to accelerate.

Both of them instantly reached their maximum speed, then collided without any fancy maneuvers!

The dull thud of their bodies colliding made one’s teeth ache. Both the blood knight and Yu Rennyi seemed to be skilled fighters, making this brute-force approach quite unexpected. This collision appeared more like an accident. However, while it was unforeseen by the blood knight, Yu Rennyi had done it intentionally.

They stumbled apart, and Yu Rennyi’s abdomen was punctured, revealing wriggling intestines! The blood knight, however, stood ten meters away, still exuding a formidable aura.

Yu Rennyi extended his right hand, and in his palm, he held a heart—a vampire heart!

Yu Rennyi gave the dark warriors a chilling smile and stuffed the heart into his mouth, chewing and swallowing it. His mouth opened wide like a snake’s, with no apparent jawbone, as if he could swallow anything.

The loss of a comrade in the first clash left the other blood knights furious and shocked. They immediately charged without reserve, and the bloody battle erupted!

After a few roars of origin force guns, the combat quickly descended into close-quarters combat.

The intense fighting continued, and soon, a blinding silver flash illuminated the battlefield. The young demonspawn watched the silver light with unconcern, while the blood knights’ eyes reddened, blocking the silver light’s penetration, and the dark warriors adjusted their positions to avoid the sharp edge. This flash bomb was only effective against low-level vampire soldiers; at the level of blood knights, there were already multiple defensive methods.

Following the silver flash came a violent explosion. The youngest hunter detonated all the explosives on his body, sending shards of silver flying and taking several dark warriors with him, wounding a blood knight who failed to dodge in time.

The eldest hunter suddenly abandoned his own defense, lunging at the blood knight who was still off-balance, followed by a loud boom!

After the explosion, the two of them were nowhere to be seen.

The remaining three hunters, as if acting in unison, fiercely attacked a blood knight, while Yu Rennyi engaged the last blood knight, trading blows with him. The surrounding dark warriors, seeing the situation, ignored their superiors’ honor and the threat of explosives, swarmed in a frenzied attack.

Mesfield frowned, muttering, “A bunch of useless fools! Go help them, even if it’s a small… form of cheating.”

The little girl picked up a bone-cleaving knife and walked towards the battlefield. Her small body dragged the square blade, nearly as tall as she was, which seemed to slip out of her grasp at any moment, leaving a long, deep trail on the ground behind her.

The besieged blood knight was the highest-ranked among the four. At this moment, he calmed down, each block and dodge precise, maintaining a solid defense. The attacks from the outer ring of dark warriors kept landing on the three hunters, adding to their wounds. Suddenly, one of the hunters laughed oddly and reached for the grenade on his belt!

As if a breeze swept past, the hunter’s laughter abruptly stopped!

The little girl appeared behind him, her bone-cleaving knife floating in the air like a feather, swinging in an arc, lightly severing his right arm at the elbow! The hunter’s elbow and the grenade fell to the ground, rolling a few times without exploding. In one swift motion, the little girl had cut off his arm and precisely snapped the grenade’s fuse.

Amidst the hunter’s shock, several dark warriors chopped him down in a frenzy.

The little girl, after delivering her strike, immediately retreated without hesitation, giving the other two hunters no chance to retaliate.

Yu Rennyi’s pale pupils constricted. He suddenly accepted a sword strike to break free from his opponent, darting behind the little girl, and thrusting his short knife directly at her back.

Though the little girl had her back to Yu Rennyi, she seemed to see his attack coming, suddenly leaping to the side, avoiding the stab. She landed next to a dark warrior, tugging at his battle robe. When the warrior looked down in surprise, she pushed him hard.

With the dark warrior’s strength, he almost stumbled, staggering and blocking Yu Rennyi’s path, interrupting his advance. However, the dark warrior paid the price as Yu Rennyi’s mithril short knife pierced his chest, crushing his heart.

The little girl slipped out from behind the now-dead dark warrior, her bone-cleaving knife once again floating as if weightless, slashing across Yu Rennyi’s leg, leaving a large gash.

Yu Rennyi let out a groan, finally abandoning his underestimation and focusing on her next move. Though the little girl was only Level 3, her fighting style was unusually eerie, each attack coming from unexpected angles and with extraordinary power.

But instead of continuing her attack, she ran forward, heading towards the battlefield of the other two hunters.

The bone-cleaving knife flew mid-air, spinning and striking one of the hunters in the back.

“Watch out!” Yu Rennyi shouted.

One hunter turned in surprise, while the other resolved to detonate all his explosives at once!

The powerful explosion sent the dark warriors flying, and the blood knight was flung backward, his upper body instantly drenched in blood, unable to rise.

The little girl, having thrown the bone-cleaving knife, turned and fled, now at a safe distance, so the shockwave only knocked her over, leaving minor scrapes. She quickly got up and ran towards the young demonspawn without pause.

The hunter squad was now completely decimated, and the sacrifice of the last three hunters inflicted little damage, clearly the work of the little girl.

Yu Rennyi made a swift decision and turned to flee.

The least injured blood knight let out a fierce cry and hurled a half-meter-long spiked bar! The spike pierced through Yu Rennyi’s back and emerged from his chest, trailing a long string of blood droplets, flying another dozen meters before landing.

Yu Rennyi let out a groan, but his speed increased, fleeing the battlefield and heading deeper into the wilderness. The blood knight’s face turned grim, not expecting this human to be so resilient, capable of escaping with such severe injuries. Weighing his options, even with the vampires’ speed, he saw no way to catch up with Yu Rennyi.

The blood knight turned to the young demonspawn, but before he could plead for help, the young demonspawn coldly said, “I said, these insects are not worthy of my effort. Can’t you catch him?”

Mesfield’s words carried a clear hint of malice, and the blood knight shivered, gritting his teeth, “No! I’ll go after him.”

Suddenly, Mesfield raised his hand, a faint black line wrapping around the blood knight’s neck, coiling twice like a living thing before vanishing.

The blood knight’s expression froze, his head suddenly detached from his body, falling to the ground. The wound on his neck was smooth, with all the flesh crystallized, not a drop of blood flowing.

Mesfield, looking at the severed head, said with a hint of annoyance, “You couldn’t catch him, and I despise liars in my presence!”

All the surviving dark warriors trembled.

The young demonspawn patted the little girl’s hair, saying, “You did well! You always bring surprises beyond your capabilities. In this, you are far superior to those fools. Stay with me, and you will reap ample rewards.”

He then glanced at the dark warriors, instructing, “Clean up the battlefield, and set a few pawns to patrol. Once that insect returns, it won’t be long before the real big fish bite. I will wait for them here. Now, the game truly begins.”

It seemed that all the humans in the cities of Rockstone, including the high-ranking warlords, were nothing more than big fish ready to be cooked in the eyes of the young Mesfield.

A new day dawned, and Qian Ye continued his cultivation, solidifying his realm. After three days of rest, his ordinary blood energy had recovered to seven streams, while the golden blood energy had formed a cocoon, lying dormant, thus escaping the fate of being devoured. In comparison, the purple blood energy was much gentler, sating itself with only a couple of streams and needing a few days to digest.

In the afternoon, a knock on the door interrupted his meditation. A hunter called out, “Qian Ye, Lord Er has an urgent matter and needs you to come to the Hunter’s Hall!”

“I’ll be right down!” Qian Ye changed clothes and hurried to the Hunter’s Hall with the hunter.

Outside the Hunter’s Hall, a light off-road vehicle waited, with Lord Er already inside. Seeing Qian Ye, he gestured, “Get in! I need to take you to meet someone, someone you should know.”

“Is it related to that mission?” Qian Ye was somewhat puzzled.

Lord Er somberly replied, “No, it’s something else. A very unfortunate matter.”

When the off-road vehicle arrived at the Dark Blood City military hospital, Qian Ye never expected to see Yu Rennyi.

This formidable enemy lay on the operating table, staring blankly at the ceiling. The doctor pulled a white sheet over his body, shaking his head at the people entering, blood spreading on the sheet, rapidly turning a dark purple.

“This is Yu Rennyi, the commander of the Black Blade Special Operations Unit of the Imperial Expeditionary Force’s Black Current Division. He is also a five-star hunter. He has killed many black-blooded hybrids in the past, but this mission went wrong. Our best hunters died, and he alone escaped. However, in the final battle, he exhausted all his life force and won’t last much longer.”

Lord Er sighed, then told Qian Ye, “He says he knows you and wants to see you before he dies. Talk to him.”

Lord Er and the others left the room. Qian Ye approached the operating table, looking at this former adversary.

Yu Rennyi’s eyes flickered, and he managed a weak smile when he saw Qian Ye. His lips moved slightly, and Qian Ye leaned in to hear him.

“Qi Yue’s true father is… General Wu Zhennan of the Expeditionary Force. They have been secretly trading with the dark races, not just weapons, but also… people…”

Qian Ye’s heart trembled slightly.

Yu Rennyi’s breathing grew rapid, clearly near the end. His gaze grew distant, his words halting, “Be careful… of the little girl! Take care… of her. It’s good, finally… dying on the battlefield…”
